Sufferer As A Child I Suffered From Many Sexual Assaults. Looking For Support.

Hi everyone. I have been suffering from ptsd for many years, I was briefly receiving treatment when I was first diagnosed (many years ago) but was a minor at the time and my parents decided to take me out of treatment.

Since being an adult I have always just ignored my issues, and more or less let them control my life. As a child I suffered from many sexual assaults and I have lived my entire adult life guarded and unwilling to take control. I now want so badly to get better, lead a normal life. I am married now and have children. My family suffers frequently because of my issues. My husband was in the military and now we think that he may also be the victim of ptsd. I think maybe that is why I am finally looking for help, how can I help him if I myself am broken?

Overall I just want to meet people who understand what I am going through. Possibly meet people who are farther along in their recovery that can maybe give me some advice. I look forward to talking with all of you!

Welcome, Samm.

Please have a good look around the site - there is heaps of information. Also, join in with discussions.

Welcome and glad that you found this site. I have learned so much here and found some support.

I think we often put off dealing with the issue's in a belief that we can just push forward. Then one day we discover that it really does have to be addressed, regardless of the reason for our motivation. There comes a point where we can not deny the effects on our lives. That is a major step in the process of change. Glad that you made that decision. Have you returned to therapy as well?

Again, welcome and hope you find the support that you need.

Hi Samm88,

Welcome to the PTSD Forum! :)

It has taken many years, but I finally realized that I was the most help and support to my own family when I was as well as I could be. Take time for yourself so that you can heal. It is the best thing you can do for your family and for yourself.

I hope you find the information and support here helpful.

Take care.

Debbie

Glad you're here, fellow traveler. W/ a good counselor & perhaps some EMDR (check it out on youtube & supplements, care & compassion, time, maybe a good group, there will be healing. The supplement that is important is ADRENAL CORTEX...I take 500 mg. w/ a meal in the AM or a middle of the day meal & 500 mg. w/ my supper meal. This seems right for me & what I found online for dosage, you of course, can decide what to do after your research. I also take the MULTI-GLAND supplement & the LICORICE capsules ...all of these support the adrenals, but without the ADRENAL CORTEX, I'm sunk & I think it is the key even if someone is taking other supplements at the time. The PITUITARY along w/ the ADRENAL CORTEX gives it more power as well.

You can find all of these supplements on vitacost at great discounts! I also take natural supplements for my brain/memory but I can tell you that none of the other supplements take the place or do the job of the ADRENAL CORTEX. It's just like if someone has a thyroid problem & they are taking good supplements but there's no real change in the thyroid, then taking ARMOUR THYROID is a good choice. Jasmin Cori's book Healing from Trauma has really blessed me & especially, Michele Rosenthal & Dr. Ochberg is also also helpful & any videos from these people on youtube.

Oh, btw, wheat products & sugar are the worse things to eat. Wheat has 50% more gluten than many years ago & gluten causes health problems. You might enjoy Mike Adams in your email to keep you up-to-date on health matters or Dr. Mercola. Consider gluten-free pasta & bread (UDI's is a good brand for the bread)
Hope this helps.
