This post has actually helped me alot!!!! For a number of years after being dx at 30. I blamed myself for not being strong, not being able to hold it together. I know the reality now...I am amazed that the majority of us were dx at this age.We have a lot more information, treatments and places like this forum. I know if I would have had this support and understanding when I was 15 I would have better coping skills now and would have thought a lot longer and harder about some of the decisions I have made. At least the kids today will hopefully not fall through the cracks and will have healthy tools to deal with life as an adult.

That is my hope and belief anyway and I truly hope this for any and all of our new younger forum members. You are very fortunate to have this information at your fingertips and people to give good, strong, sound, advice. We have been there and understand.

I was diagnosed at the age of 22. Thankfully it's because I started to fight for my health more. I knew something was wrong. The doctors who assessed me believe I have had this since I was three years old. Which explains so much in retrospect. The first doctor told me I had PTSD, but upon arrival at the IP treatment center, they declared it was C-PTSD

Trapped, Those 'specialist' obviously do not understand PTSD. A lot of Dr.s and T's like to lean toward bi-polar or manic because it is an easy diagnosis. My trauma began at 5 and though there were serious issues throughout my life, it was not diagnosed until I was in my mid to late 30's.

I was 53 when diagnosed although I'd had symptoms for 3 yrs. When looking into my past through EMDR with my psychologist it emerged that my original trauma was anxious attachment disorder when I was 3. My last trauma occurred when I was 49 causing PTSD.

I don't have an "official" diagnosis of PTSD, though I did get diagnosed with panic disorder when I was 20 (my traumas started when I was 15), and a therapist I began seeing a few months ago reiterated that diagnosis. The delay was just because I hadn't really seen anybody prior to that point, though I can tell you if I hadn't put off seeing someone I would've had a surefire PTSD diagnosis, based on what I was experiencing. I still do.

I was diagnosed at 16. I'm 18 now. I've not been in any wars. I'm sorry for being so direct, but your doctor sounds weird. Dump him or her and go to a better one who knows about trauma.
