Ativan To Klonopin- What Is An Equivalent Dose?

I'm switching from Ativan to Klonopin. I've read some equivalence tables that seem to conflict with what my pdoc said and a very experienced person in another forum (an Anthony type). I just want some opinions on equivalent doses. Save the recommendations of not taking them or doing what the doc said etc. if you don't mind. Thanks in advance on that. Many on here have experience with them and I just want to know what you think.

1mg of Ativan = How much Klonopin?

I was gonna say Google benzodiazepine equivalent doses and you should get a link to a chart that lists equivalencies for all benzos, but you've already done that. Just start as low as possible until you find what works for you. There is no true equivalency in that the half lives are all different and therefore your body will react differently to each one.

And no offense, but NOT taking a controlled substance as prescribed (in excess) is drug misuse, and if you run out at the end of the month, be prepared for horrible withdrawals. I don't think we can morally advise you to take more than what your doctor prescribed. But hey, that's just me, someone who has gone through bad klonopin withdrawals.

I'm a sensitive type. For me, 1 mg of Ativan = 1/2 of Klonipen 0.5 tab. Due to klonipen's half-life ( longer than loazepam) the dosage you take will have a fuller effect in a few days, as the cumulative dose is obtained. It surely is individual. Good luck.

Solara. Thanks for the concern but, my Pdoc gave me enough of a milligram to figure out what the right amount is. She suggested rather than directed. I am not nor will I ever abuse the medication. I only take it as prescribed. Since I'm switching... She gave me some freedom within the prescribed dose to figure out equivalency. I figured I would get a few opinions from people with experience directly switching or even people who have taken both meds and simply know the difference in potency.

I probably should have been more clear about my pdoc's role in the opening post. My apologies.

Start low and give it about 3 days before you decide if it's enough. It's always good to shoot for as little as possible, and in my experience they behave so differently in the system. I have to take more lorazepam than I did clonazepam, but what I needed ultimately was the shorter half-life of lorazepam.

You'll be looking to go in the opposite direction - lower dose but longer and more consistent in your system.

Honestly, it's trial and error. Just try less first.

My psychiatrist is obsessed with my Klonopin and restricts me to just 15 tablets per month. That is partly my fault because I stopped taking so much of it.

I switched from 1mg of Ativan to .5mg of Klonopin, I take it up to 2x's a day as needed. Typically I only take one, unless it's a bad week, then I put 1 in with my daily morning meds to get a kick start.

Thanks for all of the replies. I take 1.75 mg of Ativan in the AM. 1.25 mg in the afternoon. I'm trying a gradual switch. I took 1mg of Ativan and .25 K-pin in the AM. .75 mg of Ativan and about half of a .25 of K-pin. I feel the k-pin works better and will increase that dose tomorrow. Still would like to see more people respond. Thanks.
