Au, Us And Uk Postal Services

In other recent postal weirdness, I ordered a book through a reasonabely reputable Australian online company and was advised that it would be shipped to me within a week of placing my order. A couple of days later, I received an automated e-mail advising that the supply information available at the time of my order had been out-of-date, that the product was being sourced from an alternate supplier and would be delayed until x date.

Bizarrely, I received an identical e-mail 3 days later, this time advising of an anticipated delivery date several weeks later on.

Resigning myself to most likely never using that company again, and assuming the repeated excuses about alternate suppliers to merely be some sort of lame sales excuse (the sales equivalent of "the dog ate my homework"), I was stunned last Friday to receive... you guessed it... 3 copies of my original purchase, all delivered at the same time, one originating from Melbourne, one from the US. and one from the U.K.

Thus far I have received no response to my query about what to do with the aditional copies.

I don't trust the UK "Royal Mail" at all. I have sent cards to people that have never been received, and also been told I have been sent cards/letters that I have never got. I've also received stuff that has clearly been opened, and then sent on. It seems that any hand written letter is 'fair game' to be opened, just in case it contains any cash.

Honestly now, if I have a anything personal to send in the mail (which is rare), I put it in a brown envelope, and print a label from my computer, for the address. Hand written letters/cards just aren't safe, based on experience. And the price is just ridiculous, when delivery can't be guaranteed. If I trust the service to be quick, efficient and guaranteed, I don't mind paying, but I think the postal service here is a bit of a joke.

It's so 'hit and miss' - sometimes you get great service, sometimes you get very poor service, but at best, I would say, it's below average, for the price paid.

I paid - I think it was - £25 to post a Christmas present to Germany last year. It did actually arrive quicker than if I'd sent it elsewhere in the UK though!!! :D

Then I got an Iditarod Monopoly for Husband on Ebay sent from Oregon to the UK and had to pay another £25 to get it off Royal Mail as some sort of import tax...

I'm sending flowers to Australia via Interflora, for my great aunt's 90th. It's costing £50, plus the delivery charge!

And as for the "Royal Mail"...yes they're a joke, however I've never had any problem with money going missing in cards, although I always send a cheque- never, ever cash!

And seen as we're all having a moan....50p for a 2nd class stamp!!!! ONE stamp!!!!

In the U.S the prices of stamps keep going up. But then the post office has "forever" stamps. Which from what I can tell, are always useable no matter what the other stamps cost. Weird... How does that help their problem that the U.S postal service is in a lot of trouble financially?

Because I make my own cards I often have to pay extra postage. If my cards are over 5mm in thickness they can't be sent as a 'letter' but as a 'small package' which costs more.

I ordered a book (a big, heavy 'Jackie' annual) for my friends 50th, the post man shoved it through the letter box and damaged the corner of it. It doesn't take a genius to realise it was to heavy to stick through the door.

I posted a card for my sister's birthday in July last year. She still hasn't got it! Maybe it will turn up in July this year!!:roflmao:

And lastly. My Son ordered a sword from a company in the UK. He had to pay about £8 shipping. When it didn't arrive I re-read his invoice and realised he'd put the wrong door number on it. Parcel Force had tried to deliver it at 7:30 am but had taken it to a neighbor.

I rang them and they said they would re-post it the next day. My Son tracked the parcel on the web site and it told us it had was being help in Liverpool. A few hours later it said it was at Manchester Piccadilly Station! I rang them again and they assured us it would be with us the next day.

We waited in all day and it never came. Finally, I rang the company my Son had ordered it from and was told it had been returned to sender and they had got it back. The company then charged my Son another £8 to re-send it! He finally got it but what a mither!

Rant over!

One February I received (here in the UK) a calendar posted to me airmail from the States before Christmas. Still, there was another ten months on it so I started using it. Things got very confusing... I never seemed to understand what day of the week it was... finally I realised that it was a calendar from the year before - it hadn't taken two months to reach me, it had taken fourteen months!
