Do you use British slang? Or do you have your own? What's different about your English as opposed to Great Britan? Not accent-wise, but the vocabulary you use, your own colloquialisms, your proper speech, your rules of etiquette - how are they different?

This question is coming from a linguist, a future Court Interpterer.

{tongue into cheek}:D

Nadege, Aussies don't speak English.

They take the language and chew it up, then exhale it through their noses. They add a few silly terms like "dinkum", "spew", "baccy", "yowzer", and "bonzer", (to name just a very few) and use them when they just cannot remember the proper English word, which is very often. :p

They call a pick-up truck a "ute", they call a meal a "feed", and they say "right-oh" to just about anything they agree with. If they don't agree with something (which they most often don't, they can be a very disagreeable lot) they just tell one to f-off!

{tongue removed from cheek}

An interesting lot actually, but I love them to bits :D

Behind every good Ocker (Aussie) male is a good woman - and while the man holds the head SS, the woman turns the neck so consider me "da BOSS" :sneaky: but I'm not into beating.... however watch out for temp banning :p

G'day to everyone!!

Anything that is good is " She's Bewdy Mate" (most cars are female) and we are all stoked to be going to the beach to catch the grouse waves as they are bonza this time of year. :whistling:

Well, I'm from the UK but I have lived in Australia now for 12 years. Can't say I have mastered Australianese at all but...

one big thing is just shorten the word and add an O to the end of it. So ambo- ambulance worker, doco -documentary, arvo - afternoon, avo - avocado, relo - relative, rego - vehicle registration.

The Banana Benders (Bogans... Nicolette ducks for cover from Anthony) come from Queensland and if you live in Victoria you are are a Mexican as you are south of the border.

Anything wrong... "She'll be right mate!".

We put shrimps on the barbie, with beers in the esky and it is often BYO grog, flip flops are thongs and are standard dress with jeans and make sure you bring your cozzie if you want to go for a dip in the pool.

Lizio would not be Dinky-di as she is not a fair dinkum Aussie!

The cops get around in a Divvy van and you'll get thrown in the back if someone dobs you in for being off your face (drunk) in public.

The toilet is know as the dunny in the outback.

Here is a good website:
