one big thing is just shorten the word and add an O to the end of it. So ambo- ambulance worker, doco -documentary, arvo - afternoon, avo - avocado, relo - relative, rego - vehicle registration.

That fairly accurately summates a good lot of Aussie slang... yep, you nailed the thingo!

Then our slang really does change dramatically from state to state... city to country.

Some more to add :" smoko" for morning tea,"get a killer" out on a station means to slaughter a beast for meat, "sabi" in a lot of Aboriginal communities means "do you understand?" , "big smoke" is town.
