Best Sedative/calming Medication?

@Heather google magnesium calms nerves and you'll get hundreds of articles. I did...

What kind of magnesium do you recommend, for its calming effects and also for gently keeping one "regular?" Also, have you tried Magnesium "oil?" I read the reviews on Amazon for Swanson (and other brands) Magnesium oil and they were so overwhelmingly positive I ordered some. Can't tell yet, but I'm hoping it will help my painful lower back...

I take chelated pills. It absorbs better than normal magnesium pills and is sourced better. Good luck with the oil!

I am on Ativan for anxiety, and Seroquel for sleeping issues and nightmares.

Ativan... helps the anxiety, to a good point. But Seroquel? It's a LIFE SAVER. And I recommend it for anyone that has anxiety, trouble sleeping, or night terrors.

Hey.

I´m on oxazepam for anxiety, but lately my anxiety is so high that it doesn´t quite cut it anymor...
i took 1-4 30 mg a day as needed. I don't sleep and have severe ptsd and a spinal cord injury and CNS disorder caused by it. The VA just took me off cold turkey. I didn't have any trouble but if I had taken it 4 times every day I might have. Oxazapam is a slow acting benzodiazepine maybe you need something like Valium. Pretty much the same kind just quick acting. The va quit prescribing anything but poisons to veterans, SNRI's etc. my Civitan dr isn't familiar with it so I'm stuck taking barely enough codeine to make me feel bad but not help the pain and I don't sleep for 7-9 days at a time projectile vomiting. Up to 120 mg per day 30 mg at a time if it's needed is ok. But I would ask about the Valium. Sorry if I ramble but hope I helped.

I tried Seroquel once and I hated it. For me it was like a horse tranquilizer.

Seriquel immediate release is, generic quetiapine. But Seriquel XR (extended release; no generic in the US yet) stopped making me tired, built up in my body and really helps overall anxiety and intense emotions.

I started at its lowest dose (50mg) titrating up 50mg at a time once a month to be at now 200mg. I am still on xanax but will be asking to lower that from three 1mg to three .5 mg in a week. Im cutting my 1mg xanax in half at night and quarter in the day, never taking a full mg anymore.

I'll likely land on 300mg of serqeul xr in the end. But i am someone that gives up on mental health medication fast. This one im glad i didnt.
