Bored. What Do You Do For A Hobby?

Yep, I doodle too. Constantly, especially if I need to absorb something someone's saying. Pisses off people in group therapies but, it's the only way I can concentrate enough to listen, otherwise my brain distracts myself with everything else except what someone's talking about.

Coloring, doodling - good for PTSD and ADHD symptoms. Two in one win!

Love, do you have any recommendations for bow manufacturers? One that you like, or ones that you think I should stay away from....?

Love, do you have any recommendations for bow manufacturers?

Depends on what you need it for. You can find cheap recurves at just about any hunting shop. If you're going to stick with it, a new one straight from the source is your best bet. I own a Martin(manufacturer) Rebel(model) recurve 40# and she's my baby, sturdy and set up for anything from target practice(although the pull's a little heavy for that, most reccomend 25-30#) to hunting or bow fishing. Martin is a great company, most agree there though they can run a little pricey. You might try ebay if you want to just get started with some reasonably priced gear. Just be careful you get the right bow for you, people sell left handers bows on there for cheap and don't specify. You also might try the club you're practicing with, the long timers might just have old equipment they'd like to sell.

My brother recently showed me how to play Sudoku. At first it was hard and frustrating...didn't make any sense. Now I'm hooked! I do a little happy dance inside every time I complete a puzzle!

Of course I'm still on level 2 and use the hints constantly! :P

Based on a conversation with a few folks, it was suggested to start a thread on this. There are others about what makes us happy and helps us in PTSD. This is about specifically hobbies and talents. They may or may not be therapeutic but I believe our creative outlets are therapy as well.

Anyhoo, I will start!

I am AOW (Advanced Open Water) diver and dived in several countries (not enough though!). I became a diver shortly after learning to swim as an adult. I feared the water because my skills were not strong but my love for the ocean pushed me through and I BARELY passed the swim test for my dive certification. I am a kid in a candy store when I am underwater watching marine life pass me by. When diving, you HAVE to breathe slowly and continuously otherwise you lose all your air! It's very relaxing and calming. I miss it so much more now after my trauma (haven't dived since).

It is an amazing feeling to go out on a boat, drive over to a dark spot on the ocean, go in and find this incredible life below! Full of colors and different creatures! When you surface back to the top, it's surreal thinking that just moments before you were swimming with nurse sharks! :nailbiting:

Most would think it pretty boring or frustrating but I love to sew. It is very theraputic for me and I get a great sense of accomplishment when I finish a project. It doesn't have to be anything major that I am working on but I am proud of my talent and I just get to sit and block out everything and just focus on what I am doing.

Um.... maybe I should put a trigger warning for talking about despatching creepy crawlies? ;) Bug killing warning.

I also have another talent that I can never show off, for reasons that will become apparent, so have decided to blow my own trumpet here. I can kill cockroaches! Really, I'm the world's best cockroach killer. And humanely - one swipe with the edge of the spine of a phone book. They have to be the really big ones though, they're the only ones I'm used to dealing with.

Now, would someone please explain to me why this doesn't impress people at parties?

Before my last illness hit, I could play the piano and the organ. I love playing the autoharp as well. I played it Appalachian style (over my shoulder) and plucked and as well as strummed the strings. I enjoyed photography, and I'm sort of an artist. At least I used to be. I hope to be able to do those things again some day, but if not, I can at least say I enjoyed them while I could do them.

Hashi, I'm impressed. I hate cockroaches. I went to visit a friend and ended up going to a motel because the furniture moved with cockroaches. The kitchen came alive when you turned a light on. I couldn't stay.

Ugh, safenow, I'd have gone to the motel too. I don't like the things, I'm just good at getting rid of them. Not that many of them though!

I hope you'll find you're able to continue enjoying those activities in some form or other. I'm glad you've had so much pleasure from them.
