Bored. What Do You Do For A Hobby?

I bounce around so much!

Here are a few of my faves....

1) baking (everyone loves my cookies!)
2) reading (kindle for christmas?)
3) making artsy/craftsy stuff (wide variety of stuff to suit my mood)
4) art journaling (I don't write)
5) exercise (need to work on this one!)
6) antiquing/thrifting/buying/flipping (this is my only hobby that makes money!)

I really need to find a hobby too.

But I am starting to get into local history around my house. There was some major American Civil War battles near and in my city. So I am starting to dive into that for the lack of things to do and getting to know the place I now think of as my home. I am realized that the civil war plays a major part in the culture around here.

So I've started:

  • Visiting the sites. ( battlefields, museums, parks, historical sites)
  • Reading about it.
  • Trying to find places that do historical reenactments to watch. I did visit a battle field a few months ago where some reenacters shot off a cannon they used in the civil war (It was VERY loud and shook the buildings!)That was cool so I am looking more into that.
  • I am planning on visiting a place down from my house on the 30th. They are having a ceremony in remembrance of the battle that took place there 148 years ago.

It's something to do. And it gets me out into the sun and around other human beings.

I supply zoos, stores and collectors with animals... though I am restructuring/minimizing my species conservation business due to the awareness of unhealthy caregiving all over my life. I have sold/bred a wide range of critters from a unique bloodline of dog (picked up by farmers and the Canadian forces), rare gators and crocs, legless lizards, and a ton of geckos and first-pet type stuff.

While I find working with animals to be quite relaxing, at the point I discovered I used caregiving to distance myself from my trauma I had roughly 60 animals in my home lol. Mostly small, and 90% of them are in enclosures, but still wasn't healthy for me to keep every tank spotless and every animal happy daily. At my peak I had over 100 animals, but that was right before some big orders got picked up, so that was only for like 12 hours.

Now I just try to spend time at zoos versus having my own lol. I still have a canary and 4 foot iguana roaming my house, my 2 big dogs (100+ pounds each), and my two endangered tortoises (they share a big glass tank). Enough for me to enjoy the safety Life brings me, but not enough to detract from the time I need to spend on myself.

Oh and I collect fossils/dinosaur remains.

I normally like to paint little ceramic figurines, draw, write, and create artsy-fartsy stuff, but I struggle to get in the mood to do these things. I think this is a result of suffering from depression as it tends to cause one to lose interest in previously enjoyed activities. I wish you success in finding a hobby that suits you.

I love sewing, cooking from scratch, and running. Okay, I don't love running, but I do it three times a week because it makes me feel better right after and in a long-term sense.

I used to love reading and writing but I can't do that at the moment. I used to practise a martial art as well, but I don't think that is very good for me - it feeds into the hypervigilance. I used to go yoga too, but I'm not really into that at the moment, either.

Thanks for all the replies. People have some pretty cool hobbies. I guess what's really annoying is the hobbies I once had - reading, writing, dirtbiking, running - I can't seem to do any more, physical or mentally blocked.

Online shopping......that sounds easy enough - I wonder what things I can buy to really tick off my wife! lol
