Ketrel, even if you can rule it out but that does not change the severity of your symptoms. Through therapy, you may discover things that you are not even aware of. Regardless of the disorder, it seems to be causeing impairment that you do not have to suffer with given proper treatment.

Diagnosis of PTSD
From the DSM IV:
A. The person has been exposed to a traumatic event in which both of the following were present
1.) The person experienced, witnessed, or was confronted with an even or events that involved actual or threatened death or serious injury, or a threat to the physical integrity of self or other.
AND
2.)The persons response involved intense fear, helplessness, or horror. NOTE: In children, this may be expressed instead by disorganization or agitated behavior

Being cheated on would not meet the criteria listed above. This criteria is non negotiable. It must be present to continue with the evaluation for ptsd.

If the incident does not meet the above criteria(both A1 and A2)-STOP-YOU DO NOT HAVE PTSD.

IF YOU MEET THE ABOVE CRITERIA-THEN YOU MUST MEET SEVERAL OF THE SYMPTOMS THAT YOU LISTED ABOVE THAT YOU DO EXPERIENCE, ALTHOUGH THE SPECIFICS ARE NOT EXACTLY AS YOU LISTED-they also must come from each of the catagories.
THEN AND A PARTICULAR NUMBER OF SYMPTOMS MUST COME FROM
B 1-5,-(1 or more)
C 1-7, (3 or more)
D 1-5, (2 or more) not present before trauma.
AND THE SPECIFIC TERMS OF:
E
AND
F

Making the diagnosis is not that difficult if you have the education and experience using the DSM. However, even experienced clinicians should not attempt to diagnose themselves with any disorder.

Kretel,

I'm not going to turn you away from having PTSD because we are a community that is supposed to support those who have PTSD and turning you away when you might actually have it is....well frowned upon to say the least.

If you DO have PTSD, and its because of this cheating... then I'm truly sorry for you because you must've loved her so much. And I'm sorry. More than words can say...

The reason alot of people here deny that you have PTSD because of a broken relationship is because alot of us have gone through extremely traumatizing experiences and many of us have considered suicide and have lost our value for life. So that fact that someone developed what we have through something that we see as less traumatic is a little harder to grasp.

I hope you're doin ok and I truly hope you don't join our society. But if you do happen to have PTSD, we will accept and welcome you with open arms :)

This thread is being closed as it is going around in circles arguing a diagnosis that Ketrel is not qualified to make as other members have tried to point out.

Please also note Ketrel that your membership may come into question if this type of behavior continues in any other post or thread.

I would strongly suggest you get a professional diagnosis and read the following: [DLMURL]https://www.ptsdforum.org/c/wiki/misdiagnosis/[/DLMURL]

I disagree with above posters. PTSD can be caused by any experience which is extremely traumatic, unexpected, and so horrible that one never thought it possible.
Actually, PTSD cannot. PTSD is actually isolated to abnormally traumatic events that are not expected to occur within the normal scope of life. Relationship breakdowns, cheating, arguments, etc, are actually classified as "normal" part of life.

This is where other anxiety and depressive disorders by themselves come into play. PTSD is the worst end of such spectrums, and does not include being cheated on.

Post-Traumatic Stress from any traumatic event is normal, that is not the same as Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder.

This is a classic example of another person looking at a checklist and fitting themselves within that list. I could fit myself within many disorders list, however; it does not mean I have the disorder. It means I have symptoms, many of which overlap in disorders.

You cannot self-diagnose, EVER!
