Hello all, Im new on this site, and I have a question: can you become retraumitized by nightmares? I have frequent flashbacks about my trauma but also about this nightmare, so I'm very curious. Thank you!

I do not know how to answer your question, and I think it would be best to take this one into therapy to get a really good answer with some good assistance to help you. I am sorry that this is happening to you and I think you are so young and I am greatly encouraged that you are getting help for yourself now. Good for you.

Hello all, Im new on this site, and I have a question: can you become retraumitized by nightmares?...
I think I understand what you mean. I have had nightmares that are so bad that they wake me up. I need to look around the room and assure myself that it was a nightmare. I always remind myself that "it is all over". "It already happened". "Your ok now"

As the days go by, I am usually able to make some sense of the dream and what message I was sending to myself, or what it stood for. Once I have figured it out, I try to write it down. Usually, that works for me. The dream doesn't come back. I may have other similar dreams, but once I understand what they stand for, they don't bother me anymore.

As you process your dreams and try to understand them, remember to always give yourself credit. You lived thru it! As you look around the dark room, just assure yourself that "your okay." I lay there sometimes just telling myself - "I'm okay". "It's over".

You are your own best friend. You know what you need to "hear" to make you feel better and more safe. So, tell yourself what ever you need to hear to help you doze back off.
