Does anyone have experience with the Revenue Canada's Disability Tax Credit program? I'm hearing that PTSD now qualifies with this and people are getting some hefty cheques. Private tax firms are charging 20-30% off the top, but apparently the forms can be done by ordinary joes.

The link to the form is here Link Removed

DO NOT PAY SOMEONE TO DO IT FOR YOU....lots of shiesters will offer it to you in return for a chunk of your refund. You do not have to do this. First you need to fill out this form and take it to your doc to fill out. Take a photocopy for yourself and send Revenue Canada the original.

Here is another link that further explains it- how to fill out your tax form.... Link Removed
And another Link Removed ---this one is the publication that further explains it all.

Basically you can call canada customs and revenue and request a reassessment on your taxes depending on when your illness occured - they can go back as far as 10 years. You can do this yourself, if you feel you can't the tax office can assist you with all of the required forms to request a reassessment...if you will be doing this for the current tax year may I suggest purchasing intuit software online http://turbotax.intuit.ca/tax-software/index.jsp?viewFullSite=true

You can answer a few questions at the beginning and you can then fill it out yourself. It costs less than 20$ and as a math idiot I can fill it all out myself. I once sent revenue canada my tax forms folded into a paper airplane with a note that said there may be a few errors and if they could take a look at it that would be great...they did....seriously I used to hate filing my taxes but that software is clear cats ass. You can do all of this yourself...it is not difficult you can always ask RC for assistance...they can even do your taxes for you (but the software is better and it will find all of your tax breaks as well). If you need help finding numbers, addresses, forms etc just ask...I won't charge you a dime and neither should anyone else....Cheers! PS here is the link for the reassessment info http://www.cra-arc.gc.ca/tx/ndvdls/tpcs/ncm-tx/chngrtrn-eng.html

Thank you for your post. I was considering hiring one of the firms, but on second thought I'll give it a try myself & save the $$. I took a look at the signature requirements and think I'll ask my physcoligist to sign-off on PTSD and my GP to sign-off on physical stuff. I do use turbo-tax because it's simple.
