Career revelation

I have been struggling to figure out what kind of career I would like to build once I am able to get daycare for my son and get my life back. I kept thinking clinical psychology, not sure why. I guess because I find psychology interesting and was good at it when I minored in it, and it seemed like a well-paying career that would give good job security.

BUT then it dawned on me. Why not go back to school to study linguistics and become a Russian professor? I would think 10 years in Russia would help me get accepted into a program, and maybe even get financial aid. A lot of people had mentioned teaching to me before, but for some reason whenever I heard the suggestion, I thought of teaching elementary school students or tutoring, which doesn't appeal to me. In a university setting, however, where I'd be allowed to further my own studies by writing in addition to teaching -- THAT would be great. Why did I not think of this sooner? Now all i have to do is take the GRE, find financial aid, wait till i can afford daycare/find a program that offers daycare, relocate to a city that offers the necessary program .... yeah, I guess it'll take me a couple years. But maybe it's something to work towards.

ATA has a great certification program that is acknowledged by the UN and worldwide businesses. I'm sure there are other orgs too. Fantastic idea!!!

Adding: My agency uses a company where our customer reps call in when there is a non-English speaker that comes in for help. The translators work from home, phone based. I think it pays pretty well too....at least our contractor gets a hell of a lot of money.
