News Changing Ptsd To Ptsi?

PTSD or PTSI, still mental illness and still a mental disorder.

That's what I was just thinking. PTSD, PTSI, doesn't make a difference. The symptoms would still be the same, the way it affects sufferers would still be the same, there would be no change. If there is a stigma- IMO, So what? As long as we know we're strong, it doesn't matter what others think. They haven't survived what we have, they can't make judgements.

It's like "a rose by any other name would smell as sweet." Why change the name if nothing about the diagnosis would change? I think it would also cause confusion to people who are already familiar with the word PTSD to change it to PTSI.

That's my two cent's worth.

I recall when I had my very first appointment with T. I was 'off my head' for the first time in my life. Utterly confused and not a clue what was happening to me. I thought I was mad.

My words to T were that I was feeling 'Shell shocked'. It seemed the only words that explained how I was.

When he told me he thought I had Complex PTSD ( later confirmed by a psychiatrist) it was a relief. I didn't immediately put together shell shock and PTSD, but of course that was the 'old name' for it. Shell shock, to me explains it very well. But of course that is a very old military term/experience. It is not a useful term for the civilian sufferers today, although I understood it for me at that time.

Name changes do happen, they evolve with more knowledge and research. But there has to be a good reason for it. When a name is universally known and understood I cannot see the point of changing it to something that doesn't add to it and improve understanding.

Anthony, when I read what you write in response to people who disagree with you about the PTSD label, I see you flaming people. Flaming is a behaviour, not a thought. You describe people as stupid, you close the door hard on the topic, you don't ask questions, you say "This is the truth and anyone who disagrees with me is an idiot."

The reality is more complicated than the words you use in these discussions, and your behaviour when it comes to this issue looks like bullying to me.

This is the exact problem with interpretation, then a person rewords things using terms that were not used. I know they weren't used, because I just searched this thread for "stupid" and "idiot" and that term was not used in any manner in relation to a person or their opinion, except your use of "idiot" in your response above, being the first use of the word.

My term "stupid" got used in relation to mental health having enough stupidity already.

If you're going to make such comments, please make them accurately and do not introduce emotional words to inflame. Disagreement is perfectly healthy. There is no bullying, and that is your perception, as it is your perception to create a context that you fit stupid and idiot within as well.

I have locked this thread as there is obviously nothing useful coming from it now.
