The book uses several different Bibles to quote from. Mostly from the New International Version, but then also from New American Standard and the New Living Translation. I use the later in my studies always. I am not a life-long Christian, having come to the Lord at age 49 for the first time. The NLT is easy for me to understand and because I have dyslexia, that is important. I take longer to study than most folks. If it says each day's study will be for 20 minutes, I take probably an hour or so. I also like to look up the verses at biblegateway.com where you can find any version of the Bible! Check it out. It also have a concordance for each version with a search engine! I love that website.

@SheilaKathy (((hugs))) Gateway has been my go to since 2006 for various translations: good reference! As well, I have dyslexia+ a few other (which in consideration of those folks that do have this learning disability- the medical profession might have chosen an easier spelling :clown:)- so I understand. I find those particular translations soothing, but my go to is King James.

Happy studying!

I think it really does not matter what version of the Bible a person reads, I know that the Holy Spirit will help us to understand it when we are reading it. I think that is what is most important. SO whatever version a person is comfortable with, that is the version that they should read. I have read the King James Version too, of course, it was the first Bible I owned, in fact, but I was not yet churched then or even saved, so I had trouble understanding it. Once I was saved, I first got the New King James Version which someone suggested to me, if I recall. I read that one all the way through and have read a few others all the way through as well. I am currently reading the New Living Translation all the way through, about 4 chapters a day. I am doing one of those read it in a year plans, from cover to cover.

@SheilaKathy in one manner I agree. However, I have found some interesting variances from translation to translation within different languages as the scripts were burned, hidden, lost or before canonization. Bibles between denominational structures flux in OT and NT. The Qumran Caves and the Dead Sea Scrolls held some slightly different offers when translated then our standard canonized. The Nag Hammadi Library consisting of Gnostic Scriptures were breath taking, while the Gospel of Thomas is a solid read, & if you are Catholic the Maccabees is important. But to me, just one God.

I guess what I am trying to say is... I was just sharing and curious. Just love God, you know?:)

Translators can have misunderstandings, also things like Thomas' Gospel can be lost or rejected by those in charge for whatever reason. (I didn't even know there was such a Gospel)! That is why it is so important to let the Holy Spirit teach us, and not men or women.

Understood. However our standard Bible has only some of the books as noticed while being read (by the references within the canonized books) as it was being funded by an Roman Emperor. I am sure the Holy Spirit will lead you to notice those missing. Just offering Christianity is quite interesting in seminary studies. ((((hugs))) So with that said...I take leave.

@Recovery4Me What do you think of this one? I think this hymn is based upon the KJV. Do you agree? Now of course, it was written long ago and this video may not be indicative of the time in which it was written. I love this hymn and my church does sing it quite often. It is in the Official Methodist Hymnal.
