Can someone explain grace. Is it the Holy Spirit entering into you and washing away all sins and purifying your heart without you even asking? As someone that experiences guilt and self blame due to trauma, I have been having a hard time with "forgiveness." But I felt God's presence one day and it felt like something was pouring over me and cleansing me. Is that odd? Was that grace?

Grace is unmerited favor from God, who is also the Holy Spirit and Jesus. That is the way it has been explained to me. In other words, we did nothing to EARN it, God gives it to us because He loves us and wants us to be in tune with His plans for us. If we have accepted Jesus as our Lord and Savior then the Holy Spirit comes to us, especially when we ask Him to, but also when we believe in Jesus and all that He did for us too.

I have also been told that guilt is a tool of the devil, one that he tries to use to separate us from God. But there is a Bible verse that says NOTHING in all creation can separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus.

I hope this helps to explain things for you. I am not a pastor or anything like that, just a devout Christian who cares.
