Has anyone tried the 24hr text crisis lines?

In North America there is "686868".
I have not tried but i will next time. i just learned about this today.

I hope its not unexperienced volunteers like some of the other phone services that can make me feel worse for calling and not being understood.

I know a few people in the UK who work on the crisis line. It is being introduced over here using the USA model.

I can assure you that they are fully trained and recruited on the basis of previous therapy or crisis support work. The training I am told is really thorough and they are well monitored on shifts. I would have no concerns about using it myself although have not had the need.

Hope this helps.

I’m training to be a volunteer at the crisis text line. We have to fill out an application, pass a background check, and complete 30 hours of training. Then, we have to commit to 200 hours of volunteering per year. You just text “home“ or “start” to 741741 in the US: Crisis Text Line

There is also an international chat service by instant message or phone at TheHopeLine (I used to volunteer for them, and they are more spiritually based). You can also download the smart phone app:
Hopeline

Hope you can find and get the help you need!

I thought about texting the USA number once but didn’t want a squad car at my sisters house.

I wasn’t suicidal, just feared a heavy handed person on the other end.

I completly get that but it is unlikely to happen they are very cautious to sending in the rescue squad from what I know they will only do so if you are really about to harm yourself and they have ways to assess that with you. If you are not high risk they will just chat away until you feel calmer, need to get off, or decide to end the chat.

Even so, I couldn’t risk it. :-/

I know I needed to call SO many times, but I too am so worried about the person on other end, not really listening, not even close to understanding (honestly, unless you lived it, WHO COULD?!), watching the clock praying for the end of their shift or my call, or just trying to determine if they should call the police to my address because when you have PTSD its easy to use big words, seem like everything is hopeless, etc. or get the feeling they have little interest, and cant help me anyways - I mean, why else would we be calling a total stranger on the phone if not completely desperate depressed scared and out of options/friends/family that could be so much more help (if they existed) - my soul is out to you and you are not alone.

Have a question of privacy? If you call, who gets that info? Know one group requires your therapist's phone & will call.

I don't know Eve. I used the crisis talk line before and was not suicidal. I was just at my bottom and needed to talk really bad. I was treated badly. They basically asked if I was suicidal and if I was not, this line is for those who are. Another time I did talk to a really compassionate woman and felt better afterwards.
