My 'Pops' was headed for a heart attack or stroke, and thankfully they did a cardiac catheterization, and found a long blockage which took 2 stents to fix. His artery was 90% blocked! It is truly a miracle that no 'event' happened before they got it done. He is home today, and feels tons better already.

Me? I"ve had 2 long days, this one being 15 hours long. So, now I am headed for bed!

Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz :sleep::sleep::sleep:

I'm glad that your dad is alright. I've had both parent's go through this. Actually my dad had a triple bypass. My mom had two stents and, after that, a triple or quadruple(can't remember a very tough time). My heart and thoughts are with you. It's good he is already feeling better. Definitely a positive sign!

I am happy that he is feeling better and nothing bad happened to him. I imagine that you are beyond exhausted. Something about staying at hospitals for long periods of time. I hope you will have a long time together with your dad. Thanks for sharing your good news with us. I hope you get alot of rest and recuperate from your worries. Hugs.

I am so glad that they found your dad's problem in time. My dad had his done about 6 years ago - I was in pieces! All I could say was "but it's my dad" as if he is supposed to be invincible! He is fine now and I'm sure your's will be too. Big hugs and wishing you very long a peaceful sleep! x

When my dad had a triple bypass and I saw him the first time after the surgery, he was so pale and fragile looking, I cried. When my mom had a heart attack last year, I had to make some quick medical decisions for her because, she put me down as her POA for that. It was a horrible experience for me. I wish for my kids to never see me in either of those states. Though, with my medical illnesses they have seen me in some pretty bad ways.

I"ve had 2 long days, this one being 15 hours long.

Remember to take care of yourself if you are involved in the wellness of your parents(or anyone for that matter). When my mom had her emergency surgery that finished at midnight, her surgeon told us to go home and get rest. That being in the ICU waiting was not a good place to be and that they would call us if anything happened. I had been at the hospital since about 9 that morning. I left, to get some rest, but it helped that I was right down the street from the hospital.

I hope he is recovering nicely. Baby steps. My dad started, when he got home, by just walking down his driveway. It wasn't all the way in the beginning(he has a long driveway), but baby steps.

I can relate somewhat, my dad had a heart attack some years ago and they found a fully blocked artery which they could do nothing with and one partially blocked which they did nothing about but said may need to in future. I feel it needs to be done as his symptoms are returning but he won't do anything about it so i am worried.

Also my brother is awaiting a stent as just found out he is in similar position to my dad, so can't understand why they stent him but not my dad. Obviosuly my brother is alot younger but seems there is some inconsistency in treatment. I am so glad that they have sorted your dad before anything happened.

Sorry to hear of all the family members with heart issues.

I hope that other family members take these as a lesson. If there is that cardiac family history, it's time to try to fight the denial that "It won't happen to me" and to start a sensible diet and exercise program.

I had a wake up call a year ago and, as a result, changed my ways to a large extent. It's NOT easy!

My FIL was, and had always been on a sensible diet and exercise program. He still had a stroke. Doesn't mean you shouldn't do those things, he probably would have had a stroke earlier if he hadn't been otherwise healthy. Just means you can't just count on those things if your family has a history of either. My FIL's mother had multiple strokes. Checkups with good doctors help. Lot's of people tend to put these checkups off. I know my mother had symptoms of a heart attack for three days before she got help. Important not to ignore the symptoms.

Something i have been thinking about since my brother was diagnosed with heart disease, it goes way back in our family generation. It does worry me and i know i need to change my diet, my diet is rubbish. I exercise people think its ok because i exercise but it isn't diet is big factor, something i am really struggling with. I need face up to it and deal with it. I myself had some heart investigations last year but im since not convinced isn't something underlying with me, i have had high blood pressure for years.

Dad has had a hard week, but as always, his attitude is good. He has not been able to walk much for several years due to his bad lower back. He had that fixed earlier this year, but injured his knee while at the hospital during a transfer from his bed to the OR table. That hampered his walking for another 6 months. (We aren't the type that raise a stink when something happens; we just reported it and they apologized)

Today, he had a Basal Cell Carcinoma removed from his face, a few inches below his left eye. The doc had to go in 3 times before he got healthy tissue. He has a pressure bandage on, so we haven't seen the incision yet. He already has a black eye from what we CAN see. Of course, he had to joke that I smacked him. LOL, we usually have to tell people he's "the Dad" and I'm "the kid", cuz he looks young for his age, 81. And now days, ya really don't know! :)

This is his 3rd cancer of this type, and earlier this year had a melanoma on the top of his head. But, his attitude is still positive. That's my Dad, and he's my hero. It takes a lot to get him down!!

We hope that 2013 will be a better year for his health! "We ARE going to develop better eating habits around here, and I'm going to work on my bingeing. After I eat everything in sight.....:roflmao:

Thanks for all your support!! (And get your skin checked once a year)
