I had an interesting conversation with a friend about Darwin and PTS. The whole survival of the fittest. Put two organisms in a petri dish both will fight and one will win out. Put three and one ends up a scapegoat. OK I hear that. However,it dosen't wipe out the whole species and ultimately they have to co-exist together. He's trying to suggest the scapegoat is the weakest link. I call rubbish. The scapegoat is simply out numbered. Massive difference. Ask Fox network or any republican. LOL!

Seriously though..our current moral systems represent thousands of years of trial and error development. Someday our current moral systems will be obsolete relics of history. Look at the cave man days..totally sociopathic. Sadly current humanity is deeply entrenched in the ills of narcissism.

Then we have PTS. I believe it's a significant process in evolution. Namely our minds Mother Nature so graciously have given us ..to use! PTS is about adaptability every child forced to endure an abusive environment knows all about trial and error. We used it as a survival mech. We experienced every emotion in it's extreme and still manage to find balance. And something else. Selflessness. It's a remarkable process. We end up at a higher level consciousness. OK..that is AFTER we get past the horror of the malevolence present in the world today. It can be done!

They really need to stop calling it a disorder. :stop:

I disagree. Post Traumatic Stress is not reserved only for children. Many people do not feel all the emotions others do, and in the extremes that they do experience this often results in Affect Disregulation, which is horrific in itself. Balance is incredibly hard to find even after years of targeted therapy. I do not believe there is a higher level of consciousness. Perhaps a greater degree of understanding but not consciousness.

For me it is a disorder. I have (Complex) Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. PTS is something else. I am pleased for you if that is 'all' you have. You are very lucky.

This isn't order. This is pure DIS-order. I'm not sure if your PTSD is extremely mild or if this is more denial and aversion on your part.

If you want to put your money where your mouth is, renounce your PTSD status. You'll no longer be eligible for treatment payments as insurance companies require that diagnosis code. And you'd want to leave the forum as well as this is a place for those who have PTSD (not PTSO). (All this said to make my point, rather than in pure seriousness, get it?)

If this isn't a disorder, then doctors and therapists wouldn't treat us, as you don't try to fix something that isn't "broken" as the saying goes. Do we really want to go back to the stone ages when there was little to no help for trauma sufferers? I don't think so.

I think it's a bit funny that you remark about society being narcissistic yet your whole post smacks of narcissism in that "we" are more evolved, more enlightened than the rest of society who *gasp* hasn't progressed to our superior standing along the evolutionary trail. I grew up around this same sort of thinking from my grandfather only it was in relation to the superior intellect of those from our culture. I really can't stand the "we are better" thinking as it sounds like nails on a chalkboard to me.

Please, let me be a Neanderthal, errr, rather it would be more of Cro-Magnon as we didn't evolve from Neanderthals, if it would mean giving up this supposed evolutionary trait (gone horribly, horribly wrong.)

Please don't lump me into the "broken" pile. I have PTS symptoms like everyone else here. I choose to look at the bigger picture. And that my friend is the opposite of narcissism.

LOL! We ARE more evolved than our abusers. :)

They're discussing changing the name to PTSInjury. I believe there's a thread around here discussing this very concept.

Look around Solara...society is indeed narcissistic. We live in a society that doesn't want to get involved unless it happens to them. Where do you believe the blind eye comes into play? Victim blaming? Endless list.

Meh...Until you define the need for a whipping boy....

Little billy bad ass is a chump. He's mentally deficient and the weakest link. Have you ever noticed they run in packs?

Uhm I said "broken" because that is the term that is in the cliché. It is in quotes because I didn't mean it literally. If I had used another term then it would not have been as universally recognized as the cliché. I honestly anticipated the "I'm not broken" defense, but in the end it's just semantics.

We are in very different places in our healing and it's quite obvious...

I refuse to argue with those who display obvious narcissistic traits. I've pointed out your narcissistic thinking in other threads but you can't see it in yourself. Your thinking is right, everyone else is wrong, and so on. You seem quite defensive here. It gets exhausting to have such discussions. I'll refrain from replying in the future.

Edited to add...

Your argument is flawed. You are arguing that PTSD is an evolution, but in order for it to be an evolution, it would have to be an advantageous change over those who have been traumatized but have not developed PTSD. Ahhhh, most definitely not.

You are arguing that developing PTSD is an evolutionary advantage over being an abuser. This argument makes NO sense! Please brush up on Darwin. We didn't develop PTSD because we evolved from being abusers. MANY abusers have PTSD themselves and MANY people with PTSD were never abused. You're arguing apples and kumquats...

This isn't an argument. You don't have to agree. ~Shrug :)

Are you aware everything on this planet is evolving right at this very moment?

LOL Yes..you pointed. You do that a lot. LOL Are you sure it's me?!
