I'm glad he was okay with your pace. I do want to say again what some of the others have said.
It doesn't matter what he, or anyone else, expects. You only have to figure out what you want and are comfortable with, even later in the relationship. You are COMPLETELY in charge of your boundaries and your partner needs to respect them COMPLETELY. That said, I understand that you have anxiety even when you desire intimacy. That is a part of you and your partner should be COMPLETELY patient and respectful of that too. If they love you then they love all of you.
If you feel like you are having issues where your boundaries are too rigid then you can deal with that over time and/or in therapy. Regardless they should still be respected. This is your journey and others can choose to walk with you in a way that makes you feel safe and loved or they can take their own path. You don't have to feel anxious that some people leave. There are always others that enter.
