Disassociation and Tinnitus

I had counselling yesterday and I was disassociated for most of the session. I could tell I wasn't fully present when I left as my legs felt like jelly and like they weren't mine. I also had a ringing in my ear - like a mild tinnitus. And it hasn't really gone away. It comes back when I am brought back to the trauma or thinking about the counselling session...

A quick google tells me that tinnitus can be a result of disassociation. Is this likely? Has anyone suffered from this before? What do I do to help and do I raise it with my counsellor. I am so confused.

Honestly I am so glad I saw this! I had that for the first time the other day and I'm still getting It on and off and now this makes so much sense! Literally went to the doctors about it and everything. I don't have any answers for you but I just want to say that you're not alone (:

No idea as to your question (as in dissociation can manifest in so many ways, sensory issues alike, but I do not know about tinnitus in particular), but I would take it up with your counselor.

As to personal experiences, I have fairly perma on tinnitus (attributing it to brain injuries, more like), but I know I am more aware of it when dissociated, and when I calm the stress down, it eases out.

My senses get totally f*cked with when I am dissociated.

If it’s my eyes (that go all blurry) I ask myself what I need to see that I’m not seeing.
Ringing in my ears? I’d wanna think about what I would like to be hearing that I’m not.

The answer could relate to flashbacks, a trigger, or issues spinning around in my head.

I have constant tinnitus. However it is a component of my Meniere’s Disease from blunt force trauma.

Perhaps consider being open with your T concerning your recent (?) development as s/he can be an valuable part of an holistic health approach to healing.

I found allowing my general practitioners, audiologist, T., ect to exchange as needed (with discretionary measures ) assisted moving forward many physical challenges during my work within therapy.

I dont know about dissociating for me bcuz i dont know really what it is.

I do get blurry eyes that unblur after awhile. Changes in sound. And tinnitus frequency shifts in pattern and pitch (high low). Mine is 24 7 the whine is always there....
