Hi friends,

I have had one episode in my lifetime of floating above my body and for a few weeks one summer, I had episodes of derealization. Nothing since.

Except when I get triggered with my partner (anger, shame), I feel like everything goes into tunnel vision, almost like I've crawled inside myself. I'm wondering if this is also a form of dissociation. Let me know if you have any thoughts. I am not diagnosed PTSD, but do have relationship trauma from my FOO.

Thanks!

Possibly.
I do not experience dissociation as 'out of body' at all.

You may be experiencing derealization which is a form of dissociation where you experience a feeling of disconnection from your surroundings. Things may seem unreal.

I rarely dissociate outside therapy but yes I’m familiar with the tunnel vision. I’ve experienced that at the same time as feeling outside myself. To the front and a little to the right. Sometimes I end up in a place that’s white and foggy. All my senses are gone, frozen, can’t speak and my point of focus is very, very narrow. That place is rather peaceful and it’s always a wrench to come back.

I don't experience tunnel vision, but my point of consciousness does go deep, deep inside of me. My T's thoughts on this was because my trauma happened when I was so young, that I had no external sense of awareness.
