I had to answer no, but it would be interesting though to see how many people sleep with a weapon at arm's reach. I started sleeping with a hammer under my pillow at the age of 9. I would fall asleep with one hand gripped on the handle. I did that pretty much until I left home at 18. I have always had some type of "weapon" by my bedside. I've also had a german shepherd all of my adult life.

I don't sleep with a gun under my pillow. I have a golf club and a sawed off axe handle beside my bed. I also have a drawer full of assorted knives and a machete hanging on the wall.

I started sleeping with a knife under my pillow and a baseball bat beside the bed when I was a very young girl. Sometimes when I'm super anxious, I sleep with either the axe or the golf club in my hand. It just makes me feel safer.

I didn't vote, since I USED to sleep with a gun under my pillow, until Dad took it back, quite astutely surmizing I'd use the thing if need be. Well he knew I would, having taught me to shoot at the age of 8 or so, I think. Having been 'blessed' :) with 3 girls, he thought they should be comfortable with guns. I am. I also know I would be in jail now if i'd used it, regardless of the fear for my life and the absolute certainty that it would be him-or-me in that case. There's an elderly woman moldering away at the moment in prison. After a lifetime of abuse, her husband held a gun to her head for 1000th time, chased her from her house. She got into her car to flee for her life, he stood in the way, pointing the gun at the windsheid. She floored the car, running over and killing the *sswipe, and is doing the rest of her life in jail. So I'd be in jail, doing my children no good at all.

I have baseball bats all over the place, one in the car unless my son swipes it for use. I hide the kitchen knives on the basis that someone would see one, pick it up and just GET me-silly, I know but do not see them as protection but a threat-goofy. I have a riding crop I keep over the mirror by the front door and do NOT leave the house without it. When I do, I panic dreadfully! It's funny, because the children and my husband just do not blink an eye, either, and if you think about it, how strange does THAT look? There's not a horse within a half a mile of the house.

Mace/pepper spray and wasp spray round out my little paranoid arsenol. Wasp spray is a GREAT defence weapon, since it would sting terribly, and sort of shoots a good distance. Hee. The last time I had to enter a courthouse was hysterical because you should have seen the face of the security guard when they confiscated THAT. I carry a purse the size of New Jersey and had actually forgotten it was in there. :)

I sleep with a gun very close, but I live in the country and we've had troubles with thieves. When My nightmares are particularly bad and I find myself waking up to chase nonexistent threats I sometimes sleep with a unloaded gun in my hand, having first locked up the ammunition. I call this my "all steel teddy bear" and it really works. considering my PTSD is combat related it is a weird solution. My wife found it weird to say the least, but accepted it as a practical solution.

No, the gun is on the nightstand. Having a loaded gun under the pillow makes me a little nervous about the safety somehow coming disengaged and it going off accidentally. I'm quite certain I can reach over to the nightstand and grab it before any intruder could get the better of me.

No, and I did not vote in the poll.

In my country having a gun is illegal, and I'm glad it is. When I feel scared at night I check the locks on my doors and windows, if they are properly locked, and when i am really teriffied I put a chair in front of my sleepingroom door.

When I feel unsafe or threatend I just trust on the huge amount of anger that is burried somewhere deep down inside of me. There were times I secretly wished someone would cause trouble or get aggresive with me, just to let the anger out. I think I could kill a giant with my bare hands when that anger is triggerd.

I am a woman, not very tall and of normal posture, but beware of the supressed anger and agression that's inside me.
( Uh, now I scare myself:cool:)

I also own to dogs whom are very very very dangerous....NOT! (Yet, they have there own secret smelly weapon to knock you out;).)

I like to have a knife near, but out of reach (Kids), but as long as I remember that it is my safety I want it around to begin with, and for the fact that I won't probably have to use it but it is there if I ever were to actually need it.

No gun.....baseball bat and knife, two dogs. Bedroom window close is close to the ground, so ecape is not to difficult Keep my shoes while I sleeping on or close depending on the situation.
