Does Anyone Sleep With The Door Shut/locked?

Another one of the "door open" people. It took me a long time to normalize having the door closed. Most of the worst stuff happened to me in my bedroom or behind a closed door.

I live in a one room apartment, so yes. Door closed, lock and deadbolt. :p I'm kinda lucky in that even with the blinds down, the streetlight outside give my room a small bit of ambient light, so it's easy to get around even in the dark.

@ Friday jones. Your place is frequently broken into? I'm so sorry, how scary. Is it possible to get a dog? Cops tell me they are best deterrent. If not maybe some signs that say "I love my pit bull" or another powerfull breed and a big dog bowl on your front porch. Just a idea. My front porch has a pitbull rug and a sign letting people know I own one . I've never been broken into but it sounds like a kennel when someone comes to the door. Ha ha

@Jezanna No worries. It's just my ex and his friends. No one to actually be afraid of. Just the AnnoyingSquad with their teeny tiny wieners and no balls at all, come to trash the place again or bang on the windows and walls. They think they're scary. Snort. Just annoying.

In my own home the door has to be firmly shut for me to sleep. In a hotel it must be locked - but that stems from an incident when a member of staff (after a staff party) wandered into my hotel bedroom at 3 am!

I am also conscious of exterior doors. I like the house to be secure but with the key available as an escape in the event of an emergency. Some years ago I freaked when we were on holiday with Rory's sister - staying in rental accommodation. She locked the exterior door and then took the key to bed! I felt trapped and did not sleep well at all.

I sleep with the door shut to keep out the four cats. I used to sleep for so many years with the door open. Never had a problem with the door, I guess I am lucky to have escaped that bullet.

I need to have my door closed to fall asleep. On most nights I need it locked too. I've been chewed out for it in different places I've lived because it can cause problems with heating/AC, so there I am cranking up the heat when I could probably leave the door open. But I don't like it to be open during the day either.

Definitely a closed door type, here. My dad used to crack the door and stare at me and my brother while we slept. We still don't understand why he did it.
Im hoping some day Ill be able to sleep with the door open, like how I eventually stopped using a night light. Now, I have to sleep in complete darkness. Silly how things change over time.

For sure the door has to be closed. Most nights it has to be locked. I wish I didn't think about it so much actually.

This is quite normal for people with trauma, especially PTSD level. Don't feel bad about it, it's not a negative. In fact, many sleep experts say your room should be as dark and quiet as possible to get the best nights sleep, which has a lot of valid science behind that statement.

Night is the worst. I have to have the lights on outside of house and some inside my house and my bedroom door locked. I can't ever go to the bathroom until morning, I hold it because I am too afraid to go outside my room at night. I have a night light in my room and I am 33. My son has commented many times and asked if I was afraid of the dark.....he sleeps with his door wide open sound a sleep after ten minutes. I wish I could do that. I had to put a lock on my closet too.....pathetic, huh? I don't sleep much at night which doesn't help things....
