I'm feeling particularly anxious I don't normally drink coffee but trying to over come sedative effect of meds. Having fluttery chest and severe restlessness. Only had two cups. Is caffeine the causes of my excessive anxiety

Yes! ! It makes me nervous, makes me run to the bathroom every 5 minutes and it then passes out. It depends on how much i drink. I can only handle half a cup of latte or cappuccino or else I'll be shaking and panicking. Watch out on the amount of caffeine you drink and at the time of the day you drink it. Never have it after 3 pm if you wish to sleep at night. Lastly avoid caffeine so close to food consumption because it reduces the amount of nutrients and minerals your body cam absorb because all those will pass out in urine. Always wait 1-2 hrs after meals to drink caffeine.

Does it make me anxious? Nope. Not a bit.

Is it making you anxious? Sounds like it!

Is it the cause of your excessive anxiety? Well..... Maybe.

Or maybe it's mixing uppers & downers (always risky, often unpredictable). Or maybe you've been triggered by something. Or maybe an awful lot of things. I would nix the caffeine, personally, as the obvious answer. If the restlessness & anxiety remains? Look abroad for other answers.

Coffee itself doesn't make me anxious. I enjoy a good cup of coffee and it is relaxing most of the time as long as it is one or maybe two cups. However, if I am already anxious I know that I can't drink it because it will increase my anxiety and restlessness to the point where I am unable to calm down. I just notice how I am feeling before I decide to brew a pot. I drink tea if I notice coffee isn't best for me. I did that for months one time when my anxiety was pretty constant.

Long-time coffee dinker. It calms me. But when I was on certain medicines my heart rate doubled. I couldn't drink coffee anymore.

I'm just glad my heart rate is back to normal. But coffee has different effects on different people. If you're not a regular coffee drinker I would stop if you think making anxiety worse.

Caffeine tends to calm me. Helps me focus and all of that.

Though ditto @Ocean5, how well I am with it is hugely dependent on how I'm with my heart at the moment.
