Does it ever stop??

Thru no fault of our own, we are the ones full of pain and so many questions with no answers... but, we also get to heal, and to learn along the way how to set boundaries with people, or to walk away from people that insist on hurting us, for what ever reason. For every time we face our pain, it gives us back the power they took from us.

^^ That is so beautiful @ladee .

, but the terrors stopped following a talk with someone who explained to me what the dream was meaning and emphasized to me that I WAS safe now. We can logically know we're safe but yet feel the burning of the anxiety and thus feel helpless.. the helplessness of a small child. Then, we might feel guilt because we feel we ought to be able to stop this and that, but we can't... For me, it began to feel like utter power-less-ness, and wow, what an awful thing to feel. I s

^^ This is so accurate.

I've just concluded that I don't need to be in the midst of people who don't show empathy. We do have the choice of departing and doing that departure with some peace in our hearts. As for any rude comments people make, that's a gift we get to cease meaningful communication with them. I've worked with many special needs' kids and trust me, I abhor labeling. Labeling and affixing a name to a group of symptoms is damaging and stigmatizing. It can and does follow that child all his/her life and the label, whatever it may be, is often not correct nor does it acknowledge the healthy changes you make in some folks' eyes. If you had a friend who broke his leg, would you constantly envision a cast on him and joke about his being clumsy? Nope, because he healed and to persist in ridicule would be mean-spirited of us. Mental issues and physical illness can each be improved. Sadly, our society is geared for quick fixes and immediate relief. People are in a hurry to get well and expect the same in us. They may get impatient and are intolerant with us but yet, if they had the same issues as us, would despair and hope for the same compassion they have denied to others in distress.
A label does not sum up your whole being. To me, it's a convenience that's used to assign a diagnosis to use for insurance purposes or to satisfy requirements to put people in a category. Sort of a mixed blessing since people DO need help and counseling and a diagnosis helps to address one's issues, but a label can also cause more trauma, ironically, if people believe there is no hope for us. How untrue!

I take your words to heart, and hope there is hope for (all) of us.

Yes, to this day, I always think back to a little guy who was hyperactive I babysat as an older child/ teenager- he was a doll and we had no issues at all, and everybody else did. (His NT sister was more difficult to manage, for me). His parents were going insane with worry and troubles, ended up divorcing. Viewed his future as 'grim'. Us together, -well, he was an angel, and, as I said, we always had good intuitivness and work-arounds, understanding, and terrific cooperativeness. And he grew up to become a sweet man, far as I know, and a fabulous mechanic. I don't get it. Glad he 'got it' though- because it was less stressful for me! And geez, he was just a little boy.
