Does social media help or make things harder for you?

I’m curious how other people here experience platforms like TikTok, Instagram, YouTube, or Facebook.

Sometimes social media can be a way to connect with people and find supportive communities, but it can also become overwhelming or expose us to content that affects our mood.

Do you find certain platforms or types of content helpful? Or do you feel better when you take breaks from social media?

What has worked for you when you notice social media starting to affect your wellbeing?

I don't use them for support at all. People are not usually helpful and that seems to be amplified on social media.

I would use you tube for videos to learn.

Instagram I only use to follow tattoo artists!

And Facebook only for keeping in touch with some people.

Even this website: I use what works and leave the rest. It feels safer than other websites but I'm still very cautious hence not sharing identifying information.

There's good and bad about social media.

As an austistic woman, social media is a vital part of me connecting with others like me. But also the algorithms etc are effing dreadful.

When I'm doing really badly I get stuck in an ever decreasing loop. When that happens, logging out of all social media is very good for me indeed.

Terrible for me, I only use YouTube, sparingly outside of music.

I like to purge my alogrythm on there when I start seeing it full of trash. Or use it without logging in, then I have to look for what I want, with purpose, instead of going off of the selection suggested. I use a browser extension to hide Shorts and other features I don’t like/use.

On a couple forums for my interests.

I limit my time on the PC.
