Having a look at the pre-print DSM5, I think most (if not all) of my symptoms and sequele are nicely summed up in the "Developmental Trauma" diagnosis. Anyone else here (esp. those with parents who have personality disorders?)

What to do about it is another story.

Scott

What are you referring with the diagnosis? Example, G 07 Other Specified Trauma - or Stressor - Related Disorder?

I do not see one for "Development Trauma" as yet, or am I looking in the wrong section? The closest for PTSD in children I see is:
  • G 03 Posttraumatic Stress Disorder in Preschool Children
They haven't concluded the proposed personality disorders as yet... but glad to see significant change to DID to stop most of the nonsense going on with it... really tightened that one up.

I do really like the revisions though for PTSD... that criterion A issue may get resolved signficantly from the changes, though saying that, also moving PTSD from an anxiety disorder to a Trauma or Stressor Disorder, may mix things up again for the next decade...

DSM 5 said:
The person was exposed to one or more of the following event(s): death or threatened death, actual or threatened serious injury, or actual or threatened sexual violation

Maybe it's from an old proposal for inclusion in the DSM5, but I was talking about "Developmental Trauma Disorder". Maybe it's been 'revised out'. What's the most up-to-date revision?

They revised it in the last month, and I don't see "Developmental Trauma Disorder" included at present... instead they have shifted many existing traumatic disorders to an entirely new group, being:

Trauma- and Stressor-Related Disorders

I see they have, reactive attachment, disinhibited social engagement, PTSD in children, ASD, PTSD, adjustment disorder, other specified trauma or stressor related and unspecified trauma or stressor related disorders now under that new category. No longer are these existing ones Anxiety disorders.

They don't have any specified criteria for the last two as yet that I can see. I thought you knew something new they had included, but not published yet. Damn...

I see this being an addition to many with complex trauma who self injure: Rebuilding will take some time, but with good treatment and family support he'll be ok.

Well it looks like it's been 'revised out'. But then, childhood post-trauma syndromes go on to become post childhood post-trauma syndromes anyway. I think I still have the text as it was before. Have they incorporated it into something else? It's a pity they son't seem to have it because trauma in childhood can have (usually does) dramatic and pervasive symptoms that have been the subject of more studies than you can poke a stick at :-). Trauma and sequellae can become a core personality trait if the 'core personality' hasn't formed yet (eg DID).

I just give up trying to follow the APA at present... as these diagnoses are changing every few months.
Yes, it's confusing, but the DSM5 is yet to become 'official' and is changing every 5 seconds. Presumably all the 'tasked teams' are furiously busy which certainly is better than them sitting on their hands and not doing much at all (which would not have surprised me).

It says this on their website:

"

Conditions Proposed by Outside Sources

There are a number of conditions that are being recommended for addition to DSM-5 by outside sources, such as mental health advocacy groups, that are still under consideration by the work groups. The following conditions are considered “under review,” and work groups will make a recommendation about their inclusion after further assessing the evidence. We welcome your comments on whether available evidence indicates that the following should be included in DSM-5.

Apathy Syndrome
Body Integrity Identity Disorder
Complicated Grief Disorder
Developmental Trauma Disorder
Disorders of Extreme Stress Not Otherwise Specified
Fetal Alcohol Syndrome
Internet Addiction
Male-to-Eunuch Gender Identity Disorder
Melancholia
Parental Alienation Disorder
Seasonal Affective Disorder
Sensory Processing Disorder"
