Whoa, wait, this might be a diagnosis you can receive in addition to PTSD? That seems sort of absurd, though I guess you can have this without PTSD though PTSD often entails something like this? Not sure. I would definitely qualify. I've contemplated suicide but usually self-harm in non-lethal ways that are discreet and frankly more drawn-out and painful than razorblades might be (at least to me. I have a high tolerance of instant/spontaneous pain and a low tolerance for longer term pain.). This has always been wrapped up in my PTSD, though. But this description feels like my very own glove to go with the seemingly sewn-to-fit criteria of PTSD I find myself outfitted in. >.<

PTSD doesn't entail this at all... its often present in complex trauma, but its still a minority, and would be diagnosed independently, comorbid. So basically, heal the PTSD and this would then disappear and you would no longer fit the diagnostic criteria, thus no longer have the additional diagnosis.

I agree it's not PTSD but it does share some of the symptoms, and often goes in parallel, the feeling of unreality, extreme 'inner turmoil' that's intangible, if you cut yourself then it makes the pain 'real' and tangible. Most people who cut have quite a lot of relief from pain after they've done it, which when you think about it is rather odd, but understandable.

I have always wondered why PTSD was under Anxiety, and now it semms that the DSM is agreeing with me... it shouldnt be there. Am i reading that correctly, that PTSD will be in it's own section with other trauma-related things, and not under Anxiety Disorders?

Dont know if it's more dissociative or anxiety. Certainly produces enough of both...

I think apathy as a disorder might be more along the lines of Rudolf Höss which in his case would definitely be termed 'disordered'.
