Oh man.

It is so upsetting to people who love any kind of artist to find that the beauty of their work is no reflection of their character.

I remember learning in my 20's that the great writers I admired were often real jerks in life. But this re Woody Allen....geez.

I remember all these actors and directors pulling for Roman Polanski and wondering what is wrong with these people. People will believe what is comfortable for them to believe.

The quality of the work and the quality of the person who creates the work are not necessarily mirror images.

@Lost Pup,
People on the Internet will argue anything. I'm laughing at all the people who are ADAMANT that an opinion can not/should not be formed and go on and on and on about it. Really? I've never seen so much arguing and defensiveness over a topic that some claim to have no opinion about. It just goes to show that people will argue anything.

Many of these people are likely looking at this from the outside. I mean saying Mia fed her these lies just to get back at Woody? I doubt it. I think people watch too many lifetime movies and think that in divorce cases, all allegations of abuse are due to a scorned woman.

And there isn't enough evidence to support her claims in a court of law so it didn't happen? Duhhhh....MOST of us who have been sexually abused as children don't have enough evidence to bring our abusers to justice! Outside of physical evidence (usually none because we didn't tell right away) or an eyewitness (again, usually none, because they were smart enough to not have an audience), what do you have? A whole lot of accusations which boil down to a he-said/she-said situation. A lot of the time, courts won't convict on accusations alone.

I think I've gone on enough. It takes a lot of courage for a survivor to come forward. I think that it's quite sad that the victim is put on trial because she is going up against a rich famous person.

And didn't Roman Polanski have a huge hit just a few years ago? He was actually convicted and is still loved! Society really sickens me sometimes.

It is a difficult one - like the shock I experienced when I learned that Proust got off by torturing caged rats with hatpins. How could that person have written one of the most astoundingly sensitive novels ever?

She is very brave. Credit to her. So sad to hear it. I always believed there was a problem but having her come out and discuss it like this removes all doubt for me and makes me sad for her that she has felt silenced for all these years.

How everyone carried on as if there was nothing wrong after he was found to have been having a relationship with his children's teenage sister (Soon-Yi) and then married her is beyond me. Then you get all the paedophile overtones in some of his films...

It is astonishing how people will put aside moral judgement when it comes to fame, talent or intellect... How it seems to blur ones vision.

Just curious - this piece and the resultant visibility of survivors has been about a scale 10 trigger for me. It always is (Sandusky, etc) but this is even more so. Anyone else feel that?

"These things happened so often, so routinely, so skillfully hidden from a mother that would have protected me had she known, that I thought it was normal. I thought this was how fathers doted on their daughters." - Dylan Farrow

This gave me chills because I could have written this. Everything about this story rings true.

Dylan, if you are reading this, know that I believe you; not some silly medical test, or worse, Woody Allen. It is very rare that there is physical evidence of sexual abuse. I'm working on an article about that right now.

The more I read, the angrier I get. I lose just a little bit more respect for those famous actors in his movies who choose to look the other way. Apparently Alec(?) Baldwin tweeted about not needing to comment on a private family matter. Yes, I agree that his opinion doesn't matter just because of who he is, but I disagree that it's a private family matter. It is attitudes like this that keep victims in the dark. There is a reason for the existence of mandatory reporters of abuse (therapists, doctors, etc)...it is so these matters don't get swept under the rug as "private family matters".

I know what it feels like to need your story to be told. Many of us don't speak out for justice as we realize we won't get any. We speak out because we feel it is our responsibility to do so even if it will only help save one other person from experiencing the same trauma. But, people on the outside don't understand this. They point to the law, and state that he was never convicted. We all know that means crap. Why can't she have a voice?

I am also disgusted as to his relationship with soon-yi. Yeah, it was LEGAL but c'mon, he knew her since she was only ten years old! Gross. I can't help but wonder if she was groomed in some way. He was the parental figure, she was the child. At age 19 they get together? The whole thing is incestuous without being legally incestuous if you know what I mean.
