Ear Infected

Hope you are finally starting to feel better ear infections are AWFUL!

Not to hijack the thread, but to Gamer and others that may know, can ear infections be caused when a wisdom tooth is trying to come in? My oldest son has Asperger Syndrome and the very high pain tolerance with it. He just told me today his ear hurts and he can hardly hear out of it. He then said that about a week ago his wisdom tooth on that side was "acting up". Of course it is past Dr hours now.

Dear husband has some drops for the external ear infection and I gave son a decongestant and ibuprofin but I can take him to urgent care if it gets too bad for him. Just wonder if this is going to happen a lot if his wisdom teeth may need to come out.

Thanks so much!

Yes it can LAA,

Wisdom teeth coming through or being impacted can deffinately cause ear pain (or pain at the back of the ear). The nerves all run very close to the ear. Also the pressure can increase in the Eustation tubes causing inner ear pain. Sinus pressure/infection can also cause ear ache. Any infection in the mouth/nose/ sinuses can travel up the tube into the ear.

When babies teethe they automatically chew on something (anything!). I bought myself a rubber babies tooth brush and chewed on it until the pain went. Sounds awful but with anti-inflams as well and teething gel it worked wonders. As does sucking on an ice cube.

Good luck LAA and I hope you're feeling much better soon Game!

Thx Amethist and CraftCath. I know the ears, nose and throat are all connected so I thought there could be a link....just wasn't certain. :D Now to see what kind of treatment Autistic son will allow to happen. He has a few "quirks" that can get in way at times.

Got the meds last night and started using them right away. It's Ciprodex and it was very expensive, I think its a broad spectrum antibiotic with a steroid to relieve swelling. My ear feels good after using it, I'm hoping this is the answer.

That's good that it seems to be working quickly!

So glad to read this. I was thinking about you this weekend as I am so prone to these (my kids and grandboys too!) and my ear was feeling wonky. I don't do well on steroids but they tend to be short-term these days and they do work well.

peace,
Rain
