Emailing Someone That Their Friend Is Dead Is Not Cool, Lacks Courtesy And Is Downright Weird.

Sorry about your loss Ms Spock. An email is not a very nice way to receive receive such news. Whatever their intentions were, hope the way the message was delivered didn't do you too much harm.
My partner (although we are too new to really use that word) received a text that a very close friend of his died two weeks ago. Send by the deceased's SIL.
He spiralled so badly out of his grip, I'm going over there this weekend to try and get him back in the present again. So here's hoping you landed back on your feet again.

I was fortunate that the news didn't have the same effect as it has on your new beau.

It was quite manageable. Being able to vent here meant I didn't take my emotions in to the situation, which was appropriate in this case.
