After several false starts, my latest session yielded some real results. I finally 'went with it' and my mind cooperated. When the session ended I felt verrrry heavy, came home only wanting to sleep. (Had stuff to do though.)

I posted a thread in the last week asking others how to deal with feeling like EMDR isn't working. And poof, it worked.

Woohoo! I'm really glad I got some of that pain off the shoulders of my inner child. Feeling more self-trusting now too.

So great that EMDR worked for you. I knew that feeling six years ago. It's pretty much indescribable, but for me there was a huge weight off my back because the burden of having to worry about my trauma was no longer something I needed to do. It's an awesome feeling.

For me, I was so impressed that I wanted to do everything I could to tell as many people about EMDR as possible. After all, although it works so well, it's virtually unknown in the mainstream. My effort took the form of a documentary film- I thought if people could see it perhaps they could be inspired to try EMDR themselves (or recommend it to a friend). The film's website is here if you want to check it out: emdrmovie dot com.

Doglover, that's great news! It's pretty normal to feel really tired after a session, I think because changes are physically happening in your brain. I did EMDR for about 6 months before switching to Brainspotting and it really helped me. I would feel things happen during the session, but then for the next few days I would feel like my brain was processing the session and changes were still happening. It's amazing!
Keep up the good work!

I am happy for you, I am going to try it for myself and I am feeling nervous. I need to research it some more to learn about it. I sure hope it helps me. I have a driving phobia I need to get rid of. Feeling more hopeful now, Thank you very much for posting about your sucess. Congratulations.

Please tell me how it worked. I just dont understand. I dont know if I dont relax enough of what. I had a couple of sessions and they are vague. She told me to think of something and hold it in my mind. I just forget but felt not better.

I too have had success with EMDR. It doesn't by any means 'cure' everything, but it really does make it easier to bear.

I still have 2 more sessions - not yet scheduled - but specific targets planned. I have every faith that it will help.

Interestingly one of the sessions is to tackle a future anxiety. An event that has not yet happened. T says it will reduce the impact by having dealt with it by EMDR first.

This is so inspiring. Something that really works. I am getting so hopeful for when I do it. I have been feeling nervous about it, and it is kind of scary for me. So thanks everyone for sharing.

Yes it does really work. I've been doing it for a while and untied some knots inside that would never have become untied otherwise. It is a fascinating process; I remember reading somewhere someone describing it as being able to look really deeply into yourself and find the truth, and that's exactly what I've found. Plus it just (after the tiredness, headache, confusion and unpleasant feelings after a session lifts) leaves you feeling differently - some of the automatic sinking feelings etc are no longer there.
