General Emdr For A Carer?

I was under the distinct impression that EMDR is a highly specialised skill and NOT something you can 'just try for yourself at home'. EFT however, is something you can practice on yourself.

In fact (and please by all means, if someone knows better correct me if I'm wrong) I've heard it's quite dangerous to practice EMDR on yourself. Highly unrecommended. Don't mean to sound cynical and will doublecheck this with my T next time we speak.

I have heard the same thing Jen. I can see just from the EMDR sessions I've had, which are preparing me to deal with the traumas, it is very powerful and brings intense feelings to the surface. My T has had to keep me grounded in them and we aren't even dealing with the traumas yet. Doing it at home would be very dangerous. I've heard you can actually get stuck in a flashback.

Exactly what I've heard Iam. In fact, I've heard even with a practicing specialist it can go the wrong way if the patient is not ready. As I said I'll double check. It's not something I'd consider either safe or smart to muck around with at home from what I know.
