I found it incredibly tough but it has changed my life for the better. I was exhausted after every session but my T warned me about that. I always had a clear afternoon after EMDR so that I could come home and rest. PM me if you wish.

Wishing you peace and healing

Wonderful news! I hope that will be something I can say after I have don my EMDR...that I just have started...well not the actual sessions but I have begun creating a safe relation to my EMDR T.

Thank you so much for your input! This is something I am working towards with my trauma specialist. It is nice to hear what someone else's experience with it is.

Good for you SB! It's tough no doubt about it, but well worth it. I became symptomatic again last week due to lots of major triggers happening over a 3 day period. Both of my Ts had warned me that it could and probably would happen. Still it kind of knocked the equilibrium out of me. The good thing is that it did turn up other core issues we need to process. Even so I am still much better off than I was a year ago thanks to emdr ;o)

I wish you the best, actually I wish it to all of us who are working hard at whatever therapy we've chosen!

There are several threads on EMDR SB. Type in EMDR in the search bar and check "Titles only" then "Find Now". It will bring them up. Lots of good information there. I'm sure that your trauma T is working on grounding techniques and creating a safe place with you. Things/people at home should be supportive as well in order for you to be able to do emdr. My T actually had my husband come in so she could explain what we were doing, what to expect and give him tips on how to help me at home. It really helped him to understand and be supportive. Anyway...really just wanted to let you know about the other threads as they contain far more information that you might find helpful from those of us who have used emdr.

I had my first session of EMDR yesterday, we did it just using a safe place grounding technique before starting the heavy stuff yet, afterwards I did have a massive headache, probably from eyes going from side to side.

I have to practice the technique on my own at home in the next two weeks, but rather than having the eye movements its been suggested to tap it out on my chest or legs when I get anxious, and cue myself into the safe place to over ride that momentary OMG panic.

The EMDR my T says is better doing with her, but on my own at home I can tap it out, its a wierd concept but at this stage I am willing to give anything a go.

Hmmm...Wow Blondie.....My T just had me practicing going to the safeplace, but without tapping. What a great idea, I may it a try!

Iam another thing she said my be useful and might be useful for some people, my safe place is the beach.. so I have downloaded off the pc some lovely sounds of the sea, waves etc.. so when I am needing to cue for my safe place I put my ipod on and I can get into my zone as quickly as I can with the help of audio too.

My T said, and people will just think you are tapping to your music on your ipod...:)
