I have been a member on here a very short period. I have taken much consideration from supporters and sufferers. I have been to therapists over the years with my sufferer. One thing that has stood out to me like a light in the dark is PTSD symptoms do not make a person have hostile and bad behavior. It took awhile to understand my sufferer was in full blown addiction and I didn't notice because I was justifying much of the behavior due to the PTSD diagnosis. I would like anyone who reads this to know that this was an injustice to the pure hurt and ache that PTSD causes it sufferers. Not all will do as mine did and self medicate with addiction (to whatever)......but I would plead with you to pay attention to your sufferer and changes you begin to see. If they are not seeking help and refuse it, GET YOURSELF help. If you suspect addiction DEAL with IT. The sufferer can not begin to heal from PTSD if they are addicted to a false coping mechanism.
This is where the Hope and encouragement comes in......Its been dark, no doubt. But finally he is seeking help. He is in inpatient treatment for 3 months. It took almost 5 years to get here. It was forced. But he was also ready. So whoever you are there is HOPE. PTSD sufferers are some of the strongest and most honorable people because they hurt so deeply and continue to try. Mine is a hero. Literally. Not for the accolades and awards he has received but because he is trying........If you can see past the PTSD, and see a future most likely they will too. HOPE.
