Hi everyone,

I am an energy medicine healer who works with a lot of folks dealing with PTSD. Among my clients, I have soldiers returning from the Middle east, as well as folks who have sufferred tremendous abuse in childhood, and folks dealing with domestic violent crime. In addition to PTSD, some of my clients also have OCD/depersonalization and other issues.

I joined this forum to learn more about PTSD, and also to offer my perspective on what I've noticed has helped. There are many different energy modalities, and they often can help where medication cannot. I often get clients who cannot even talk about what happened. Using energetic and simple body work aproaches can can often reach people when other approaches have failed. I also have some experience assisting with acupuncture for people with PTSD.

That being said, I also know that no one way works on everyone. Each person is truly unique. I am the last person to insist that a technique or approach is the magical one that works for everyone. I've found that there are times, for example, when acupuncture does not work, nor does Reiki, but crystal work is the huge breakthru. Other times, it is the opposite. Or maybe EFT is the gateway for some big changes, while for other people, it's body work to release trauma. Sometimes it is a combination of all of them, sometimes sequentially at different times is more effective.

I've found body work very helpful for many who cannot speak. It doesn't require me to touch clients, but it does get clients moving in specific ways to help move trauma out of the body tissue. One body work technique I use has been clinically shown to be effective it is often used in mass situations, such as with earthquake survivors, when there are lots of people in need. (I believe China used it recently to help the hundreds of thousands of earthquake survivors a few years ago.)

I work in an integrative med setting, so we use a combo of things, including my work (energy med), along with allopathic, acupuncture, and herbal medicine. We've found that even stuff like nutrition and supplements have shown to be helpful with dealing with stuff like panic attacks, etc..

And yet, even that does not work with everyone. It really is a case-by-case situation, and it takes patience and respect of the individual. This is why I really do not like to promote one thing as the magical answer. Nothing is every so simple.

But I do feel there is more available than most people realize, especially in the world of energy modalities. It offers one more way of healing that doesn't involve drugs. Energy work is more than Reiki. For example, sometimes shamanic work is very powerful, in PTSD, but sometimes it is the last thing that should be done. You have to know the client and where they are inside.

Regardless of technique or modality, I do feel that a big part of the healing is being truly and deeply heard. On a soul level, in a way that goes way beyond words, in a way that affirms that 'yes, you absolutely matter, and your existence on the planet is vital'. This is the part of my work I find sacred and the most fulfilling for me. It doesn't matter what technique is used, if you don't have that, you don't have much at all.

Anyway, I just wanted to say hello and let everyone know I'm listening and learning from what everyone has to say. I hope to share perspective when I think it might help someone, even if sometimes it is just to offer encouragement or support.

Regards,

Orca

Hi Orca

Welcome to the forum! You will find this to be a great place for information and resources.

Thank you for taking the time to learn more about ptsd.

BC :hello:

Hey Orca, welcome aboard. I have tried several energy techniques myself and have yet to crack the code. I have the number of a shaman, but so far have chickened out on calling. Maybe it's time to try it.

Hope to see you around,
Dave

I want to. I dabbled with practicing shamanism as a teenager myself, and do believe in its power when properly approached. I have this fear of being told "you're beyond repair" or "it's all your fault". Somehow coming from a shaman (who I respect) it would be worse than coming from a medical doctor. Then again, it's medical doctors' treatment of me that has created this fear. Hmmmm..... where's that woman's number...

Orca,

Hi! I'm glad you are here! I was just looking for articles on PTSD and Reiki treatment and was thinking about posting on the topic myself. I personally always use natural treatments over western medicine and prescription drugs etc. but I am not the one suffering with PSTD (my boyfriend is). I am taking him to Reiki next week for the first time with a friend of ours. Welcome to the forum!

Hey there Orca and welcome to the forum.

Just wanted to say thanks for sharing your experiences and hope with us who are looking for a solution. (I'de say that's probably all of us.)

I almost had some spiritual/crystal work done a few years ago with a full blooded Cherokee who had been doing it for years. (with much success, I'm told) He was still in the process of building his new sweat lodge and I guess he lost my number. Thanks for reminding me of another avenue I might take for relief.

My motto is "I don't care what you call it, just fix it"!! Looking forward to your suggestions and expertise.

Hello All,
Thank you for the warm welcome! I was just gonna be a bug on the wall here, but I'm all up for sharing what I have...

Cragger65/Dave: Nice to hear from you! I'm glad what I posted didn't sound bizaare to everyone. I never know. With the shamanic stuff, it absolutely can be helpful, but it's important on the context of with whom and how and in what way. Always check to know inside you've found the right person and it's the right time. Else, you'd be sort of fighting it, as the trust wouldn't be there, and it would be counter productive. I'd I've studied with some shamans, and although i don't call myself a fulltime shaman, I do some shamanic things in my work. And that's enough, I think. I see the fragments of the soul in the air and do what is needed to help them come home, as well as removing the foreign pieces that don't belong to someone so they can go on to where they need to go, and simple is good, and with PTSD, the more gentle approaches are the more helpful ones, I think. Brute force imposing or pushing is absolutely the worst thing that can happen.

PTSD has a very strong spiritual component that is not always recognized in allopathic or psychotherapic circles. As a healer, this is the hardest thing to convey to the allopathic side of the house, since they tend to view things as strictly emotional trauma or chemical imbalance/brain injury. So I understand exactly what you're saying, about how having someone tell you you're broken beyond repair would be so very devastating. On this topic, I feel I could write a whole book with what I've seen and experienced with this, but I'll just stop on this for now. Just wanted to let you know I know exactly what you mean.

Suzie: I have done crystal healings on several folks, as well as some simple shamanic things. What's particularly nice about crystal work and sweat lodge is that you can take things at your own pace. It's not about someone else pushing you faster than you're ready. Your body will know what pace is right for you. I think that's REALLY important, esp. with PTSD.

It's the intent that works with the stones energy in crystal healing. But if you're curious, maybe you can still get to know stones for yourself by picking up a couple crystals you like and checking them out. A nice one to start with for PTSD might be black tourmaline or snowflake obsidian. You can get a small piece for just a few dollars, and carry it around and see how you feel. These are very protective stones. I think crystal work is a great place to start, and it can help you be ready for the next level in healing, which is perhaps a bit more engaging. The dark is very grounding, for people who have lost the sense of safety and need some help just to get by. Flower essences of Rescue Remedy can help take the edge off of the panic also. And if that doesn't work, EFT can help tremendously also.

Clarity99: Reiki is a great place to start. Sometimes the PTSD is so excruciating it is beyond words, and before more deeper work can happen, there has to be a way to just hold on and stabilize. Depending on the person, Reiki can help with that. It's gentle, and no one has to open their mouth to process anything. Sometimes, when people first come in, I do only silent energy work with Reiki (Reiki is one of several approaches I use), and I've had people have profound spiritual healing experiences right on the table. They are literally seeing into the other side, and getting a wisdom I know could never come from a human. A client the other day saw a Native American guide who spoke to her at length, with an entire lucid experience right on the table. This doesn't always happen, though. Sometimes people fall asleep, which is exactly what they need, since they haven't been able to sleep past the nightmares for weeks. The whole thing is bigger than just me, and yet I know that is why I am there to be with these folks.

Anyway, this is the stuff I work with all day. It's a bit different, that is for sure. It's not as well understood. But I feel it can contribute to helping people in a way that is unique.

Sincerely,

Orca

I'm so glad you're here. Your work can be extremely helpful and is only just becoming more "mainstream" (if that's the right word).

I am a Reiki I and forget sometimes that I can use it for my own purpose. And I have a beautiful green and pink stone that I need to pull out and starting using again. I'm very drawn to your type of energy healing and know the power to heal in these modalities works. The shaman that originally diagnosed me with ptsd has a background in hypnotherapy so I think that helped him better understand and recognize my symptoms. He also performed a soul retreival. One of my spiritual guides is a Native American - Wise Hawk. He is my protector.

Looking forward to hearing more about you and your experiences.

Hey,

Welcome to the forum!
Definitely sounds neat...
I didn't know about some of these techniques before.
Thanks.

Hi Manic11,

Yes, there is more available than many people think.

On Fri. I had a client come in who has been dealing with the aftereffects of having been abused as a child. I did some shamanic stuff, which is quick and can happen in a blink. With her, Reiki and qi gong didn't really work. Stones didn't work because she only switched her obsession from other things to worrying about if she had the right stones and was doing it right, etc. Soul dialog didn't work because she jumped into her head and that is a place where nothing can really happen. So I did some shamanic stuff as I had to peel off some stuff that wasn't hers, it was stuff that had come down thru the family lineage. There was quite a bit.

She wrote me she is doing much better and at least able to sleep better. I'll see her again this week.

None of this energy stuff looks all that fancy, so if one didn't know any better, one might assume nothing was going on. But it's all in the intent.

Hi Orca

Sounds interesting and worth a try for the many that seem to have problems with medication.

Welcome to the forum,

Best wishes,

Louisa
