Hi everyone,
I am an energy medicine healer who works with a lot of folks dealing with PTSD. Among my clients, I have soldiers returning from the Middle east, as well as folks who have sufferred tremendous abuse in childhood, and folks dealing with domestic violent crime. In addition to PTSD, some of my clients also have OCD/depersonalization and other issues.
I joined this forum to learn more about PTSD, and also to offer my perspective on what I've noticed has helped. There are many different energy modalities, and they often can help where medication cannot. I often get clients who cannot even talk about what happened. Using energetic and simple body work aproaches can can often reach people when other approaches have failed. I also have some experience assisting with acupuncture for people with PTSD.
That being said, I also know that no one way works on everyone. Each person is truly unique. I am the last person to insist that a technique or approach is the magical one that works for everyone. I've found that there are times, for example, when acupuncture does not work, nor does Reiki, but crystal work is the huge breakthru. Other times, it is the opposite. Or maybe EFT is the gateway for some big changes, while for other people, it's body work to release trauma. Sometimes it is a combination of all of them, sometimes sequentially at different times is more effective.
I've found body work very helpful for many who cannot speak. It doesn't require me to touch clients, but it does get clients moving in specific ways to help move trauma out of the body tissue. One body work technique I use has been clinically shown to be effective it is often used in mass situations, such as with earthquake survivors, when there are lots of people in need. (I believe China used it recently to help the hundreds of thousands of earthquake survivors a few years ago.)
I work in an integrative med setting, so we use a combo of things, including my work (energy med), along with allopathic, acupuncture, and herbal medicine. We've found that even stuff like nutrition and supplements have shown to be helpful with dealing with stuff like panic attacks, etc..
And yet, even that does not work with everyone. It really is a case-by-case situation, and it takes patience and respect of the individual. This is why I really do not like to promote one thing as the magical answer. Nothing is every so simple.
But I do feel there is more available than most people realize, especially in the world of energy modalities. It offers one more way of healing that doesn't involve drugs. Energy work is more than Reiki. For example, sometimes shamanic work is very powerful, in PTSD, but sometimes it is the last thing that should be done. You have to know the client and where they are inside.
Regardless of technique or modality, I do feel that a big part of the healing is being truly and deeply heard. On a soul level, in a way that goes way beyond words, in a way that affirms that 'yes, you absolutely matter, and your existence on the planet is vital'. This is the part of my work I find sacred and the most fulfilling for me. It doesn't matter what technique is used, if you don't have that, you don't have much at all.
Anyway, I just wanted to say hello and let everyone know I'm listening and learning from what everyone has to say. I hope to share perspective when I think it might help someone, even if sometimes it is just to offer encouragement or support.
Regards,
Orca
