I'll admit some of mine is avoidance some is trying to out run whatever the hell this is trying to get me. It's complicated.

I generally need about 10 hours of fairly moderate to fairly heavy exercise a day.

I’m it sure what you idea of moderate to heavy exercise is, but heavy to me is lifting weights, running hard for miles, breaking a sweat where it makes breathing hard. Moderate to me is treadmill, elliptical, working on the machines at the gym ect.

So your post (to me was misleading) or you workout as I described?!?!?!

On backpacking trips, you're exercising all day long, sometimes before sunrise until after sunset. Along the way, you can still do head work. It's a great time to be mindful, to think things through, etc.

Besides, you're breathing heavy, which keeps the anxiety down. And you're having what Judith Herman called a controlled encounter with some degree of danger, which teaches you that not all danger needs to be overwhelming. It's all good stuff.

Provided you don't break your ankle and are subsequently torn to shreds by a mountain lion. That would be a negative.

I want to go something awful. The only dangerous animals we have around here are black bears, a couple of venemous snakes and people ha!

People are the worst. Here in Cali. we have black bears. Some near Yosemite are an occasional problem. Mountain lions too, but problems are really unusual.

Down here in the flatlands, people. Frankly, some need to be tagged.

or you workout as I described?!?!?!
Yep. That’s fairly accurate.

Like I said, it’s mixed level, so it might be 1 hour of intense exercise to 2 hours of moderate exercise.

My old jobs (15-20 hours) was pretty intense most of the time. Hiking meds through the jungle/mountains carrying 80lbs of gear and another 40+ of water averaging 20 miles a day (not as the crow flies, especially in the mountains going up and down an awful lot), digging people out of rubble, diving flooded out areas, etc. No time for anything but work & sleep.

15-20 hour hard hitting days

Comparatively, 10 hours of mixed level moderate to heavy? Is cake.

Or it used to be. Still recovering from being sick, and building that routine back into my life.

I am with you 100% Friday. Exercise and lots of physical activity has brought me back from serious health problems. I am mentally much stronger (healthier) when I'm exercising, no question. I integrate it heavily with quality nutrients and quality diet. Makes a hell of a difference. By the way, increased intake of oxygen increases brain cell production and general brain health. Pace yourself, build up to higher levels like Friday, gradually. The more exercise you can tolerate, the better. Our bodies were not designed for sitting around the house all day. We've got to move to stay healthy.

I have to make my exercise fun or else I rebel against it like a mofo. lol I don't even like the word exercise. I call it daily purposeful movement. But before I partake, I do my daily purposeful breathing along with some stretching. I practice different techniques upon rising each morning and at different intervals throughout the day. What a difference the breath makes, indeed!

We were never taught the importance of eating healthily, sweating, and moving daily while growing up, by either discussion or having any good examples or role models to demonstrate such. I loathed physical education class because I was always made fun of. Can't stand synthetic/artificial smells and such now, so the gym scene isn't a healthy option in my world.

I ended up making my equipment (all of which was bought gently used, and/or DIY, and/or gifted to me) part of my decor so when the urge hits, I'm already there, and it can all be used indoors or out. A mini-trampoline with a safety bar, different sized hula hoops that I make myself, nature walks, dancing like a fool, using an aerobic machine thingy that looks kindo f like a bike but isn't, and doing the few yoga poses I can painlessly achieve are what keeps me going and adjusts my attitude quite nicely, most days.

Three-ish years ago, I was weighing in at 324 lbs. and almost bed-ridden, miserable as f*ck, not able to move comfortably enough to even think about exercising. Once I got sick enough to need an emergency medical intervention in 2015, learning one of my organs may need to be removed if something didn't change quickly, I finally unlearned and re-learned how to more kindly nourish myself and started dropping weight.

My desire to move finally returned as I wanted to do everything possible to avoid the knife, but the long-term damage I've done through the years, and had done to me, painfully reminds me to pace myself or I'll pay dearly later. Slow and steady wins the race and allows me to still move the next day. The days I slack, I get knocked back. The days I move it, I'm better able to groove it. lol

@Tornadic Thoughts I agree with you about the slow and steady. I used to be like the bull in the china shop and did damage to my body from yrs of doing these things. Now, I’m paying for it. Yes, movement and exercise is important, but the human body can’t take constant abuse and being stupid about exercise.

Common sense and not abusing your body is important for your golden yrs. my golden yrs so far f*cking suck cause its all about pain.......
