I am a woman who was diagnosed with PTSD a few years ago. I thought that taking the medication and taking care of myself was enough. But, I am now facing a serious felony charge due to my reaction to domestic abuse. Although many would say I did what was necessary to survive I have to wonder why I I cannot remember my reaction at all. I'm worried because at one point of that night I can remember everything clearly, then I don't remember anything at all. Like a shade was drawn down and nobody was allowed to see in. Wonder if blackouts and rage are common to PTSD.

Wow, Maria, sounds like a bumpy road. Welcome. This is a good place to meet people that understand what you're going through.

Do you have a therapist and/ or a good support s ystem in place? Sounds like you might need it...

Hi ClairBear,

Thanks for the welcome. I have been seeking counseling for while I go through this legal mess, but there doesn't seem to be any that specifically targets ptsd, or domestic abuse. I had just moved here a few weeks before all this happened so I don't have a support system, yet. This seemed like a good place to start..............smile

There are some good people here, Maria. Lots of good information too. Just don't make the mistake of using it as a replacement for a real support system.

There's a good artical on here written by Anthony about choosing a therapist to handle PTSD. Sounds like it would be a good read for you. Take a look under the Wiki area. If you can't find it, let me know, and I'll see if I can help find it. Good luck, Maria!

I understand how you feel. I have a very odd situation around domestic abuse myself. The "mental health councelor", a lady with less education in psychology than myself decided she couldn't help me bacause I have PTSD and gave me the number for Mental Health Associates of NY. However, many thereapists have told me talk therapy will do nothing for me; now I am dealing with my feelings from the domestic abuse, and missing my abusive boyfriend, alone. And the rejection triggered my symptoms beyond belief.
