As in the case of the rock tumbler, a coarse grit is used on the first cycle, then a progressively finer grit. It may seem at present that the Lord's tumblings in your life are too abrasive, but it won't always be so. The smoother you become, the less abrasive He'll have to be. Yield to the process of perfection, for the end results are worth it! According to the directions for a rock tumbler, once the tumbling begins, it must continue till the cycle is finished. If the contents of the barrel are left standing for an extended period of time, the mixture will harden and become one solid cement-like cake. It's that way in our lives too. We need continual tumbling to keep our hearts from hardening again and the Lord knows it better than we do! Don't lose hope, don't give up - just patiently wait on God to bring about your beauty.

I like this sermon very much. Such a pity you lost the author. I'd like to read more of him or her.

Not to derail or detract from this lovely thread, but I've been hoping to find someone with a similar faith to me to chat to about faithy things. Would anyone be up for a private message conversation?

Would you like to share the results of the conversation here? I am genuinely interested :)

My favorite hymn is 'Be thou my vision'. Followed by
'Nearer my God to thee.'

I forgot to mention my favourite english hymn. It's called "Count your blessings" but I also love the two you mentioned though "Nearer my God to Thee" makes me a bit sad because it reminds me of the Titanic. "Eternal father strong to save" reminds me a bit of the two hymns you mentioned. Do you know/like this one?

Matthew 6:29 about worry:

And why are you worried about clothing? Observe how the lilies of the field grow; they do not toil nor do they spin, yet I say to you that not even Solomon in all his glory clothed himself like one of these. But if God so clothes the grass of the field, which is alive today and tomorrow is thrown into the furnace, will He not much more clothe you? You of little faith!

Thanks for linking @holdenmonty. I actually thought of you, posting this... because you worry too much.
Do you have a Bible quote to share today?

@Lemontree I do really like the Matthew 6:29. The verse that is usually a constant one that keeps coming up is Psalms 121

1, I will lift up my eyes to the mountains;
From where shall my help come?

2, My help comes from the Lord,
Who made heaven and earth.

3, He will not allow your foot to slip;
He who keeps you will not slumber.

4, Behold, He who keeps Israel
Will neither slumber nor sleep.

5, The Lord is your keeper;
The Lord is your shade on your right hand.

6, The sun will not smite you by day,
Nor the moon by night.

7, The Lord will protect you from all evil;
He will keep your soul.

8, The Lord will guard your going out and your coming in
From this time forth and forever.

1 Corinthians 13 New Living Translation (NLT)
Love Is the Greatest

13 If I could speak all the languages of earth and of angels, but didn’t love others, I would only be a noisy gong or a clanging cymbal. 2 If I had the gift of prophecy, and if I understood all of God’s secret plans and possessed all knowledge, and if I had such faith that I could move mountains, but didn’t love others, I would be nothing. 3 If I gave everything I have to the poor and even sacrificed my body, I could boast about it but if I didn’t love others, I would have gained nothing.

4 Love is patient and kind. Love is not jealous or boastful or proud 5 or rude. It does not demand its own way. It is not irritable, and it keeps no record of being wronged. 6 It does not rejoice about injustice but rejoices whenever the truth wins out. 7 Love never gives up, never loses faith, is always hopeful, and endures through every circumstance.

8 Prophecy and speaking in unknown languages and special knowledge will become useless. But love will last forever! 9 Now our knowledge is partial and incomplete, and even the gift of prophecy reveals only part of the whole picture! 10 But when the time of perfection comes, these partial things will become useless.

11 When I was a child, I spoke and thought and reasoned as a child. But when I grew up, I put away childish things. 12 Now we see things imperfectly, like puzzling reflections in a mirror, but then we will see everything with perfect clarity. All that I know now is partial and incomplete, but then I will know everything completely, just as God now knows me completely.

13 Three things will last forever—faith, hope, and love—and the greatest of these is love.

(This would be our signature verse here for this thread, I guess. It is also my favorite Bible verse).
