Relationship Falling Out With Close Male Friend With Ptsd - Hurting

We have been through a lot of things - helped each other through tough things, including his deployment, and encouraged one another through the good. I hope that he will remember those good times and want to reconnect down the road. He's been a friend and mentor to me and I really miss him. Days are getting better - but still hard. My contact info will be changing in a few weeks and I don't know whether to tell him or not.

Everyone tells me give it time. That he always goes away and comes back. But this time feels different. He was really angry with me and his first comment to me after the bad conversation was "what's the point given your behavior." And from there on out he mostly said was that my words were totally unacceptable. Some friends work things through - and I hope that we can. It's hard to stay away and just watch it fade. But as my friends have said, I've apologized and that's all I can do.

Just because someone we love jumps off a cliff doesn't mean we have to follow them. And just because, after they jump off the cliff, they land on their backs, grab a gun and start firing up at us, doesn't mean we have to stand there and take it.

Move out of the way until he runs out of bullets and then reappear, if you want to and if you are in a place where you can approach without asking him to explain himself or whatever. Heaven only knows what is going through his head. Maybe he is vilifying you because you know him the best and therefore are the safest one for him lash out at. Who knows.

Live your life in the meantime and don't beat yourself up so much.:nailbiting::joyful:
