"feelings" Are Something You're Supposed To Talk About?

True, but the coping skill to survive becomes maladaptive when the threat is gone... it is limiting... severely rather than useful. It robs us of the breadth and scope of living wholly and limits/boils down experiences into three notes or so rather than the extensive chart I posted.

Mal adaptive coping style... when the threat has passed. It's an instinctual defensive maneuver even though there is not necessarily a direct threat. When that happens it is a thinking style/behavior or habit.

@The Albatross, you don't have to worry about that. Interesting information, all of it. I need think on it some.
I think I'm actually very in touch with my thoughts. Might ignore things like pain when it's inconvenient. My T has suggested that I never learned to recognize feelings because they normally didn't matter. I have a little trouble believing they might matter now. It's an interesting idea, for sure. I appreciate the input!

She sounds like she's talking about a version of reality where you're performing with a net.

I think this is why I didn't get much from that Ted talk. Thanks.

But are we really "netless" though, or do we just feel like we are because it used to be true in the past? So that the safety net actually is there now, but it's too hard to trust, because we've never seen one before. I mean - you wouldn't jump out of a plane if you didn't believe in parachutes. No wonder this is so hard.
