True, but the coping skill to survive becomes maladaptive when the threat is gone... it is limiting... severely rather than useful. It robs us of the breadth and scope of living wholly and limits/boils down experiences into three notes or so rather than the extensive chart I posted.
Mal adaptive coping style... when the threat has passed. It's an instinctual defensive maneuver even though there is not necessarily a direct threat. When that happens it is a thinking style/behavior or habit.
