Fireworks

Any other vets out there want to kill somone after a long night of fireworks? I know I get all worked up. I up my self medication to max and hope I pass out.

I try to prepare myself for it as my fellow veterns who have ptsd discuss what we needed to do prepare ourselves for it. Even though I prepared myself, I was jumpy and was back in nam again. I am glad the Fourth of July is over. It used to be my favorite holiday before nam.

I'd probably do the same if fireworks were one of my triggers. Do your family/friends understand?

Hammering, pounding, drilling, etc. is one of my worst. Lately, it's all day with them working on the windows. Sometimes it's better if I can see them working. It gets me into the reality of now. If you see the fireworks, is it better or worse?

I'll think of you and many others on the 4th of July and here on New Years and Guy Fawkes

My PTSD symptoms include sensory sensitivity, especially to loud noises and although the trauma I suffered is not "combat-related" fireworks do bother me, (but so does any loud, sudden or repetitive noise). I have been known to leave the area if I cannot stop or halt my reactions to the noise. I once met a vet who could not stand the sound of me popping my fingers because it triggered memories of bones cracking, so my heart really goes out to all of you who have combat related PTSD. You are sorely under-appreciated by the government in my humble opinion and I wish I could be of more help. I just wanted you to know I support you recovery efforts and applaud your courage!!!

That sucks. I hadn't thought about that before. But it makes sense, even without PTSD a lot of war veterans probably wonder what the point of fireworks really is.

You could try living in an urban area, but then there are sirens and other disturbances. People really like noise.

I had a terrible time this year with the noise from the fireworks, I knew it was fireworks but I got triggered every time they went off, I was totally scared and it stayed with me for several days, I've had other unreasonable reactions as well. It was the most difficut 4th, airoplanes got to me as well, I said that's just an airoplane, it's ok. But the fireworks were a different matter. Just thinking about it is bumming me out.

I wish they's stop neighbourhood fireworks.
