Flatness on Antidepressant.... Has anyone had luck with it going away when you cut your dose?

I’m on Wellbutrin right now. My hospital doc started me on 100mg/day. Of course it’s helping my depression symptoms, but I feel totally flat. My doc agreed that I can cut my dose down to 50mg/day to see if I can still get benefit while reducing the side effects. I am super med sensitive so here’s hoping...

Has anyone had good results with cutting a dose and getting their emotions back? I hate feeling so flat.

Hello. I'm sorry you're not finding Wellbutrin working for you. There are many published / common side effects with this med but you're on a relatively low/normal dose. I was on it years ago on the journey of "try this.... try that" (until something actually worked). We are all so different though - what works well for you may not be so beneficial for another. My emotions are fairly numb too but I was always told this is a classic symptom of PTSD itself. I wish you well in finding the right dose / med that is therapeutic and free of troublesome side-effects.

The thing is....it works, and I know it works.... I just don’t want to feel so flat....so I’m hoping a dose change will help.

This IS a last hurrah of sorts as I can’t take SSRIs. It’s completely beyond me why this med is still in a class of its own. It was first patented in 1974!!! I’m guessing there have been attempts to make a new drug in this class, but they’ve failed? Sigh. Now you know why I’m willing to do anything/everything to make this drug work for me. I simply can’t take the others.

I've never been on Wellbutrin, but I've had this same issue on other meds. And yes, decreasing the dose helped me. Sometimes I had to make a trade-off - less flatness for more depression.

I get what you mean about not being able to take most meds. I'm in the same boat. (Why I'm not on anything now, I guess).

Thanks.

I guess the next few weeks will tell.

Although, I must say, I like....Er uhm maybe I should say it’s interesting... how nothing is affecting me.

Dad doesn’t give a shit about me.

Boyfriend dumped me.

Ex is snooping around trying to use me for sex again.

Fair weathered friends who only “care” when I care about them.

I feel like screaming ok life, throw me your worst! I want to know what it’s like to feel absolutely fcking nothing when horrible things are happening to me and around me.

(I have odd reactions to new feelings, or in this case, the absence of feelings.)

Med reduction starts tomorrow. I accidentally missed today’s dose.

Oh I guess I still do have SOME feelings. They come back in a somatic sort of way. Thank god I still have my Zofran. I just want to puke. I guess my mood crash is courtesy of a missed dose. Blah.
