I don't know what your talking about Angle. The Greeks have been in Victoria for years with their Fish and Chip shops.
Flake (Gummy Shark) and chips is what I grew up on.
Now I catch Reef fish and Barramundi.

The Greeks in Victoria................Ahh come on Jimmy leave off mate, that just makes it worse, At least you Ozzies are remnants of Brtish Colonialism, Thieving cheating sods that we had no room for in our jails admitably but British none the less LOL, but the Greeks???? Please. Fish and Chips is a traditional British meal, recognised the world over you can`t say things like that it just ain`t on.

If this carries on then I am gonne be left with no other choice but to grab Lee and Ned and go to the Europian Courts. Come to think of it, haven`t wars started over lesser issues?

I can see the headline now..

"British Forces Vets, invade the US and Australia, intent on eradicating the Weapons of Mass Fish and Chip frying"

It would probably be more legit than most other reason to go to war LOL

I was not aware that unlicensed production of fish & chips was going on. This is a serious matter.
Hang on, hasn't Jamie Oliver just been out in Oz? Is the bastard flogging our culinary secrets?

Hmmm. Ummm. Fried fish was brought to England by Saphardic Jews from Portugal and Spain "pescado fritto". The chip is said to be a French invention, but I would not say that anywhere near a Belgian. They claim the chip and they do it right. I would not argue. I think it is the only thing Belgium would go to war over.

So just like the Dutch "William and Mary" taught you guys how to be imperialists and lord about the world in a most profitable way, foreigners taught you your national dish as well. Its OK. America didn't invent the hamburger or pizza either.

I like haddock and cod. Have not had shark deep fried. Grilled, yes.

Now if Jimmy would up with that beer batter recipe, I could get on with my deep fried mayonnaise ball project.

Ahh Belgium chips that is something to enjoy.

As for fish I prefer Rock, (Rock Salmon, Rock Eel, flake and Huss to give it its other names) but getting it out here in Germany is a nightmare. So the next best thing I have found is Pangasius as the Germans call it (Iridescent Shark)

I ran into a really cheap frozen fish here in Norway called Panga Panga. A farmed fish. Tastes like American Mississippi River Catfish. I looked it up and then found this.

Funny they advertise it as Iridescent shark in Germany. I liked it allot. But then checked the facts. Carp will be 100USD a kilo in 10 years. No doubt. Think I'll start raising gold fish. Set up a road side sushi stand, 20 bucks a bite.

My misses is gonna love that link LMAO not...........Yeah getting good fish has become real hard these days, thats if you don`t catch it yourself. but fishing was never my thing. And doing anything that constitutes hunting in Germany is abig no no unless you have a license. Which is a pain in the ass to get. And then if it isn`t done with a rifle a hawk, or a rod you can forget it. So no use for my Bow.

Here in this part of Canada, fish is a staple. Maple Syrup is the other thing we are known for. So combining this with bacon just seems natural.

Bacon Wrapped Scallops

12 Large Bay Scallops (1" or larger)
1/2 pound of bacon, fried but not crispy
1/4 cup maple syrup
grated parmesian cheese
tooth picks
Butter (real butter)

Put the bacon in a bowl and pour the maple syrup over it to soak. (use real maple syrup you cheep bastards)
Wrap the bacon around the scallops and secure with a tooth pick
Fry in frying pan with butter until golden brown. Flip over half way through. DON'T flip over more than once. That will make them tough.
Sprinkle parmesan cheese over the scallops and serve.
Avoid testing colesterol for next month.

This might sound silly but here goes:
While in Columbia and even Honduras, in the afternoon vendors would come out after the locals had the noon nap and they would sell fresh mango and other fruits. You could get 3 sticks filled with mango for a buck.
So juicy sticky sweet. And it made the humidity seem a little less for a few moments. Nothing fancy but nice. Thats one of my best memories.

that's one thing I miss about being deployed, I think the US is the only country I have been to that doesn't have a noon nap.... lol of course my first deployment greenside naps lasted all day, then there was chow and a shower and time for bed... nothing to do for the Marines but sleep, play cards and watch porn..

The fish and chips here are mostly cod I think... and I can't get this image of a brightly colored gelatinous shark swimming by me when I think of "gummy shark", I think it would be more afraid of me eating it than the reverse...

Imma post some cajun/creole recipes today... I'll give modified ingredients for those who aren't used to spicy...

Spice?? I just chopped up 2 habenaros and 4 cayenne peppers into my lamb and rice dish. Bring it on!!!

My palate underwent a brutal raping in Texas and North Mexico. Have not been the same since.

lol Ned, xactly what I had in mind...

Wagon, lmao!!! well said on the palate thing... I went to a thai place here and ordered it #3 hot thnking no big deal... omg my lips were raw for 3 days from the peppers...
