Both of you are correct. I have seen psych doc around the forum as well. I honestly have no idea what that could mean. Once my dissertation is actually completed and defended, then I will be a psych doc, but not one I would wish upon anyone of you to see, let alone in a crisis.

My extent of psychological intervention was/has been/is in the role of academic advising to whom students come. Much to their dismay, after they shared their deepest and darkest secrets, I ended up either referring or even taking them to where they actually needed to go. I guess it was not quite at the point at which they started off, as I did remain in contact with the students. However the number of times that I simply had the most blank look in the back of my head upon a student's comment: "Well, you know how it is ?!" to a concern of theirs related to romantic partners, a pregnancy scare, or an HIV scare. Luckily, they never seemed to pick up on my cluelessness. Biology and basic medical issues I do understand, but anything else remains a huge "?". According to my mother, I have never been able to handle touch from a human being since I was born, much less seek it out.

I always type "tdoc" for therapist (I see a psychologist) and "pdoc" for psychiatrist because that is how I learned it. I found some people took great offense (not me by long shot!) when I used the term "shrink" and because I see a trauma therapist "TT", as well, I am just flat lazy so this is how I distinguish them. :whistling:

I am like Sammy, I figure I usually catch on at some point - hopefully.

The one that got me the worst was "DGN":roflmao::laugh: The first time I saw it, I thought, now what the heck is that? Then I figured out "it" was a "she" ...

There should be some sort of warning for new members. "When choosing a sign-on name, please pick one that abbreviates well!!!"

Actually, I was surprised to find that if you ask at the help desk, they'll change your name. I thought once you started an account you were stuck for life.

(Which is not to imply that Deaf Global Nomad is a bad name. I've seen some that were just so awkward I've wondered if people regretted choosing them.)

Just for clarification - a name change can only occur if you have minimal posts and you have to speak up straight away and stop posting until it is changed. Otherwise you are stuck with it. I can now never change my name from Nicolette to Wicked Witch ;):roflmao::p

I think people should just say psychiatrist or psychologist... or simply refer to them as T.

I really dont see the difference to be quite honest, what is important to me is that I am getting the help I need from this person. I would like to just refer to my "psych..." as "T", is this what you are referring to Anthony?
