When I was going to school, our town had one TV station and they played Star Trek all the time. We watched it so much, we could recite the actor's lines before they did. My wife and I came to the same conclusion as you...you're sending your entire executive officers staff along with you to be killed, captured and tortured? Meanwhile, the Enterprise circles aimlessly around the orb and the crew plays five card draw.

The Federation really needed to take a close look at who they were trusting starships with.
