Generation Gap

Its all good popeye, but a lot of the shows is the US we do not get here.

Mr Ed, The Three Stooges, F-Troop, Hogans Heroes, Gilligans Island, and Lost in Space, were all cool.

The very old episodes of Dr Who were good too.

Jimmy

How many Dr. Whos have there been now anyway? I lost count around number 4.

Speaking in generation-gap-eez: Think I'll go chil-lax for the evening with a good book.

But hasn't money changed. In Australia now, our smallest note is $5, and the smallest coin 5 cents. Yet the retailers are still charging the odd prices and just rounding. Is that the same everywhere else.
I know the US still has $1 notes.

Yes, in the US we still have $1 bills AND we still have pennies (1 cent coins). There has been talk for several years about doing away with pennies but it's not something that has happened yet.

OK, ignore if someone has mentioned it already, but what about "Laugh In" with that guy with the huge teeth?? You know you're old when... ;)

I loved F-troop too! Dick Rowan and Dan Martin were the Laugh-In guys, I can't remember who had all those teeth though.

You guys in the UK had the coolest money EVER, I thought, when I went over there! We had this uniform, plain green stuff, and yours was multi-hued! The change was a big pain with various 'P's' the size of plates, though, and others the size of an ant. Is it still like that? Then someone tried to explain the old shilling system and I never did understand any of it. There's something which is probably a little nostalgic across the pond, no?

Poor Jimmy! These threads do tend to wander all over the place, don't they?

You know something I know what a record is in fact I put all my dad's records onto cd for him. All the good ones I can remember Jimmy Dean, Johnny Horton, Patsy Cline, Loretta Lynn, Willie Nelson, Bing Crosby, Eddy Arnold, Gene Autry, Marty Robbins, Glen Miller, Benny Goodman, Frank Sinatra, Nat King Cole, Roy Clark, Rodger Miller, Tennessee Ernie Ford, Jimmy Duarntee, Little Jimmy Dickens, Kenny Rodgers. All of these artists I know at least 2 songs of theirs. In fact I am mildly Famous at the kareoke bar for singing the stuff. That's back when music was music and they were true artists. And yes they had records for even my generation Micheal Jackson, Queen, AC/DC. My Children have been exposed to all of the old music because I want them to know where music came from and the things I grew up listening too.

Another thing that I sort of noticed that is missing from my own generation is the art of whistling. My Dad used to be able to whistle so well that he won a competition at a state fair once. He has since lost that ability because of the brain damage he suffered from his heart attack. As for myself I learned to whistle right after I learned how to walk. My children cannot whistle even after hours of practicing with me instructing them. Around here if you see a person whistling it's usually a gray haired man.

Excuse Me! I whistle and I'm not a gray haired old man! HA! I'm a grey haired old woman. Of course, most of the neighbors think I am truly nuts because I do, but I don't care. After all, I am crazy and have the papers to prove it.

As an after thought, Lawrence Welk makes me nuts. Was forced to watch it also, but the worse part----it is now on the local PBS station with RERUNS aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa. Of course, mom thinks it is great, so the "noise" permiates it's way through the house and eventually finds my ears aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa.

I was recently reading to my students a book written in the late '80s, and one of the characters uses the phrase, "You bad," as we did then, to mean "You are tough and cool." The kids were completely befuddled and when I explained that we said one thing but meant the total opposite, one of them said, "Why? That's just silly." Yes it is, kiddo!
