Getting A Service Dog.

I should just lend them my brain for an afternoon bc I could confuse the sh*t out of anything better than a lawyer.
Now THIS cracked ME up ROFLMAO! - Dear @blackemerald1, my heart is rooting for you and your future "Super Dog", and I pray to the Son of man, that it now soon happens, finally! Sending a bunch of hugs your way! TH

...Don't get me started on the antelopes...(Snickers and smiles whimsically)

t's freezing here today and I'm frozen too. I cannot get past making another cup of tea and staring out the window at the cold grey sky... lost in thought land. I haven't done anything towards accomodating a dog or even looking after myself. If they knocked on the door today to check whether I was suitable to have a dog... they'd run for the hills...

Doubtful. You don't know this yet (because you don't have a service dog yet) but, first, when you start gaining benefit from their tasks, you can do so much more then you could previously cause you have their help. But secondly, you tend to (or at least I tend to) be able to exercise them even when you have no idea how you're gonna do it. I think this is because you know they need to be exercised to focus on their job. I have such bad pain days like yesterday but Chopper hadn't been ran for a few days because of the hurricane so he badly needed to be ran and I am like "how the f*ck am i gonna do that?" In the end, I just did. I was able to push past it, not really feeling it because I was focused on him, and get out there because he needed it. You will be able to do more to care for yourself with their help and you will be able to care for them because you have their help and because you know they need to be cared for.

The program knows this happens. They expect you to be struggling. This is why you are getting a service dog. Because you need them. The rest can be figured out. They should work with you. You just need to show an understanding of how to care for this dog properly and some plans to do so. I would encourage you to bring up issues or possible issues to them so they can help you find some creative solutions!

I appologize if I miss read all of that

I'm sort of hoping the training organisation may suggest or recommend an insurer when they hand over the dog - for two reasons... they may know or have some kind of deal for their dogs since they come through such a heavy training/vetting process for both behavioural/physical stuff. Secondly, they will know the dogs medical history and that's relevant in any insurance situation but of course that's transferrable to another insurer too.

Yes! What a great idea! This also shows them that you truely care for their health and want the best health care for them possible. Bring up that you have been looking into polocies for some time now (shows you have been preparing) but that you wanted to know if they know of one or can suggest one.

Thank you @lostforgottensoul - you didn't misread that... spot on really. I forget that the whole reason I am getting a dog is so it can help me... weird because every night and during the day I need that help and I don't have it. But at the same time I want to show them I can care for a dog and treat it well, give it all the things it needs to thrive and have a good life. So it's going to be a balance for sure.

I know with my last dog... even when it was pouring rain I put on the gear and went out to give him his hour of walking and a free run... I'm so weird like that. I cannot get out of my own road but if I needed to do it for someone else or a dog... sure lol... we can do that!

They will be closely monitoring me for the first three months before they loosen the reins on us. I just hope I can stand the scrutiny. I have this pathetic desire to seem perfect in terms of lifestyle and coping. Yet why would I need a dog if I was doing so dam well???

I was notified today that my dog has passed his examinations, is registered and he arrives with my trainer on 25 November!

They sent me some pictures of him. He is just so lovely. A Beagle cross but he looks just like a Beagle hound in terms of colour, face and countenance.

He's passed everything and is in his final stages of paperwork then the trainer and my dog will fly to me, from across the country, for an intensive training period of about two weeks in my home. Wow! Then another four months of three times a week training..

And he has the coolest name too. lol More on that when he arrives..

It's so real.. I'm soooo happy and a bit overawed by the whole situation. How fortunate am I...

I thought I'd tell you all. :)

So excited for you!!! Beagles are cute little bastards:)

And of course they have that amazing sense of smell, even better than other dogs, which is something like 200,000 times more powerful than humans' smell (because they have 2 organs that smell rather than just one - cool!). Which isn't just a fun fact - it means this lil bugger is going to be able to smell your distress levels changing so far ahead of you realising something is up that it will Blow. Your. Mind!

Best news I've had for a while. Keep us updated yeah? Because it's super exciting:)
